Excellent article.
by mk_rao on Aug 23, 2006 09:18 AM  Permalink

Excellent article. Western countries always see their profit. I think we need longterm strategy to tackle problem. One solution is possibly block all media which broadcast terrorist events (like Mumbai blast..), relegious clash or any news which generates hatresim in peoples mind.

one of the best articles ever written on rediff
by Sachin on Aug 23, 2006 08:41 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The subject of my email says it all . but would like to add that there is lot to be done on indian political arena as well , out leaders like Advani have defamed the nation there and Dr. Singh aka Sonia Gandhi have shown no nerve to be firm . The communists have only one point agenda " To oppose reforms" . If at all we can develop ppolitical consenses on this and firmly declare that we will accept "No Nonsense" from pakistan we can go places.
We waste loads and loads and loads of our precious taxpayers money to counter this proxy war .. may we channelize our money and energies constructively can suspass thei tag of "developing nation" and grow and become a developemd nation pretty fast.. all I can say is Amen

Simple Question - Entire kashmir per map in your office belongs to India or not?
by Jatin Patel on Aug 23, 2006 07:22 AM  Permalink

Respected Majors, Generals and even dear mafia politicians:

You all talk big things about India, its greatness, its diversity et al without taking care of business for once and for all. Do you understand what dictator general musharaff is barking??

Or more simply from Indian perspective:
a) Does entire J&K integral part of India. Please refer to map in police station, office of politicians for reference, which is taught in schools, even today.
b) What are you doing to restore the boundries of J&K to the text book level and to political level perceived by indians?
c) Why show magnanimity towards a hostile neighbour?
d) I am not asking to invade, occupy and take over pakistan, only the occupied J&K.
d) Do you feel insulted/ashamed by viewing maps of kashmir in European and American news? Some even belongs to China!!
e) Why are you supporting article 370? This is not a question for Arjun Singh and his mafia politicians.

Do you have any answers to my questions? Thank you. Jai Hind.

Democracy or Military rule make no difference to Pakistan
by Utsav on Aug 23, 2006 06:03 AM  Permalink

Problem with Pakistan is not whether the nominal ruler is wearing a Westernized uniform (military) or Arabized uniform (mullah), but Islamic fundamentalism, whose root cause is Arab chauvinism (a result of Islam being primarily Arabic in nature).

Major threat, grand opportunity
by Abhik RayChaudhury on Aug 22, 2006 10:22 PM  Permalink

I agree with the opinion expressed in this article. However, the big question is whether our dhoti clad, pan chewing and/or Mao worshiping politicos will ever take an aggressive stand against Pakistan (and the west). Past experience (of dealing with this failed state by India) tells me that this is near impossible.

major threat, grand opportunity
by labrea on Aug 22, 2006 10:13 PM  Permalink

India did not need to conquer and hold all of Pakistan during the wars started by Pak - she only need to oust Pak's forces in POK and occupy and hold her seafront territory, making Pak landlocked and less capable of mischief - something successive myopic and cowardly Indian govts have failed to consider or comprehend.

Major Threat
by Hemant on Aug 22, 2006 09:57 PM  Permalink

Exactly right. We are very much under threat. All muslim countries want more and more land even if they are not able to feed their own people. In this desire they can do whatever they want. We should be very much alert. Also, they started with J&K saying it belongs to Pakistan as the majority of population is Muslim. If the same situation continues, the Indian Muslims whose population is growing in high rate because of the previlage given to them, some years later they may come up with more activities saying that state or part of India should belong to Psakistan. What you answer for them then. Again more terrorism. Keep this in mind. Solve it right now. Whatever happened is happened and has to happen. Let it be completely right in all aspects. If the muslims want to support Pakistan, then I strongly urge they should with their own interest should go to Pakistan which is created on this ground. This will leave no future problems. This is my suggestion.

Spreading democracy
by Sandeep on Aug 22, 2006 09:46 PM  Permalink

I appreciate your excellent assesment of the threat posed by Pakistan and your recommendations for our defense. However, I disagree with your view that India ought to actively promote democracy across the border. As recent fiascos in the middle east have shown democracy cannot take roots without a deep seated change in the outlook of the population. It is not for us to decide whether democracy is appropriate for another country. Also it could embroil us in a long and expensive low intensity conflict. I think that we should be vigilant but at the same time refrain from interfering in the governance of our Machiavellian neighbor.
