Thank you for making this interview available to us. A discussion on this topic is the need of the hour. Mr. Sen is an admirable human being and his comments have great validity.
Yes what Dr Sen says about the different & many identities of a person is very true. But ther is one major difference between a religious identirty of a person & other social identities. All other social identities are the result of circumstances; ones profession , ones birth place , ones language etc... these identities are common with all the people living around & these identities are harmless ; rather these identities allow a common platform for people to be together & these identities are not the result of any crisis. But the formation religion as a social phenomenon itself is a result of identity crisis; thats why we see lot of symbols on display differntiating the religion of person from anather person. Religion is a solution to mass identity crisis & due to that it gets threatened easily by another religion which serves the same purpose for different people. And when this threat is felt by a group of people irrespevtive of any religion , it is percieved as a threat to there identity which takes an ugly turn of riot and a human being suffers.
The views of Dr Sen jsutifies the attempt of identities get mistaken. Identities get that mistaken form because of the perception of negativity for long in the human psyche. Human beings are more prone to gat a sembelance with pain an dproblems arther than joy. This can be easily detected fromthe way we all are groomed form the beginnng in our society. from the child birth till we grow up through various instituions we get taught and instructed through various mode and multiple interactions. In the process the fact which we forget is the identity of self and this leads to the mistaken perception. We forget that we are basically humans with broad intelligence. Rather we remain identical as animals with cannibalistic sarcasm. And the confusion persists.
Had he not been a noble laurette I wouldnt have given a thought about this news headline. If he wants to shot to fame in the Page3 there are many other ways to do it.....
I sought the braod mindedness of this noble laurette. He talks a lot about Kader mia and Gujarat riots. Just last week a only Hindu family of a village in Kashmir were killed. Two kids were among the dead. If he wants to speak about secularism I ask him to raise his voice against the militants in Kashmir valley who massacring and wiping out the Hindu population from there. He dare not do it so do all the human rights activists. everybody raise a voice against the failure of govt during the riots, the same people could condemn the failure of JK govt for failing to provide security to them and could raise their voice against militants. But they wont even consider doing it. I call them Page3 heroes who just want to shoot to limelight. Would he be wise and discrete enough before he makes a statement. The whole god damn world cried for the Gujarat riots...who started it all....seems like everybody have forgotten the 58 and odd hindu people who were set ablaze like chicken in a hotel. Dont your hearts cry for them???? I ASK HIM ONE THING. BEING A NOBLE LAURETTE CAN HE BE WISE ENOUGH TO RAISE HIS VOICE AGAINST ISLAMIC MILITANTS OF KASHMIR?????Deeply hurted.....
Well if Amartya has multiple identities, why did he want the Indian identity, what's wrong with having a Bangladeshi identity? Please practise what you preach Mr. Nobel prize winner.
