good words but hollow
by vipul sethi on Aug 16, 2006 01:17 AM  Permalink

Every Indian will have nothing else but good words for our PM as an Individual and a Person but beyond that we do not see any thing. All actions of the government are only political considerations and compulsions. These cannot build a nation, they are just slogans meager lip service. The political will is totally lacking.Today as we enter the 60th year we are ruled by a bunch of tugs-how true we have proved churchill. There is a fight to retain the power by hook or by crook-power is what matters.Day in and day out the nation is rocked by scandals.Today the three arms of democracy namely the legislature, the judiciary and the executive are ony working towards personal appeasement. You talk of one nation but your own collegues are hell bent on dividing the nation in all possible ways.Very easy -provide reservation-but have we provided the infrastructure-have we ensured some basic level of education-education is a far fetched word even litracy is not there. What we teach is cheat and pass-every day some scandal in the education sector is surfacing. We have lost our character as a nation.Today we have no self respect.Material prosperity is no prosperity-its jobless growth.

Let us build a new India
by Ramdas Iyer on Aug 16, 2006 12:45 AM  Permalink

I spent the Independence day at my home in the Capital of India in a locality called Mayur Vihar Phase II. The power that went off at 9:30 in the morning came back at 1:30 PM and then again went off at 5:30 PM and came back at 12.30 AM on the 16th of August. Sweating and sweltering, without water supply, unable to cook and eat properly, we somehow got through the day. It was not the discomfort but the humiliation of spending such a day in the heart of the Capital of fastest growing democratic economic superpower which will by 2020 race past the USA on its sixtiest Independence Day, that rattled me. Can someone blame me for earnestly wishing that it would have been much better had the Let or JeM, as threatened, dropped a bomb on Mayur Vihar and freed us all from this humiliation? Commonwealth games indeed! I would be greatly impressed if Sheila Dixit and her high and mighty colleagues in the Government and the Party can host a local kabaddi match for kids in a neighbourhood park. This, sadly is the worst Independence day I have had, and I am 42.

Regarding Prime Minister's Speech
by RAKESHKUMAR PATEL on Aug 16, 2006 12:32 AM  Permalink

As per Primeminister's speech he want india should not be divided by caste and religion. They why his government support Quotas. Ask them to take out quota from everywhere and give everyone an equal opportunity. So whatever he is telling is completely opposite of what his govenment is doing.

Thank you rediff to give me an opportunity to post this message

Let us start in this direction
by Mohanbir Singh on Aug 15, 2006 10:26 PM  Permalink

Manmohan Singhji, lets make a start by abolishing the reservations on all level of higher education, on the basis of caste, and region. The only criteria in all fields should be merit. Only the economicaly deprived, irrespective of caste, should be helped. Speeches on such occassion sound very good. Please make a genuine start.

Let's build new India: PM?
by labrea on Aug 15, 2006 10:15 PM  Permalink

Hypocrite! All the things he's advocating, are exactly the opposite of what his Cong-Left (UPA) alliance are doing presently - class based, caste based and religious based divisive policies. And yes, unless they cease their shameless pandering for votes at the expense of the country's unity, there will be a new India, one that's totally balkanized, based on class, caste, religion and ethnicity. Hooray for the Left Front 'secular forces' - they will succeeded where others have failed, in destroying a great land, purely out of selfish greed for power and political expediency.

Old wines in new bottles !
by INDRANEEL CHANDRA on Aug 15, 2006 09:41 PM  Permalink

Statement like these have come from all Prime Ministers !
When Mr Singh became the PM , we all thought that along with Dr. Kalam, India has put it's best foot forward but now we feel ...it's still not enough. Mr. Singh has not shown the courage and honesty that followed his reputation as Finance Minister. he has not been able to remove regionalism, castesism, dishonesty in public life, improve the judiciary or protect the spirit of our consttution. Posterity will see him as a good man who was weak, timid, unsure and lost. We still have all the political junks who continue to demoralize our nation by making fun of honesty, patriotism, discipline and hard work. We still are ages away from having a decent judiciary ( which is very slow ); a police force which is civil, honest and educated and a political system which is condusive to good governance.
India needs directions and not slogans Mr. Singh !
Do you have the guts to do it ?

Regards,
--Indraneel

Let us build a new India: PM
by Indian on Aug 15, 2006 09:07 PM  Permalink

Lets make a new India, lets follow it in full spirit.

1. Lets dump the ODLEST (read Congress ) political party of India.

2. Lets dump ODLEST ( read Nehru-Gandhi ) political family of India (? or Italia ).

I hope if we follow these things first, then rest of the things look pretty easy to me.

Jai Hind.
