Good Article, but few doubts...
by A.Kulkarni on Aug 16, 2006 02:57 PM  Permalink

Even without reading the article calling it a HOAX, two questions pop up in the minds of a reader of the Ramasetu-version of story: How could NASA certify that the bridge (Adams Bridge) was man-made, and also decide about it's age just by a photograph take from outer space? And indeed, NASA hasn't done either of these two.

Sir, now before there pour a rain of comments on this page, abusing me and calling me a "Leftist", "nephew of Mr. Prakash Karat", or a "disciple of Jawaharlal Nehru Univ" (all these 3 are considered as sins by a proud Hindu nationalist); I would like to assure you, that I am a proud Hindu, I am a supporter of BJP, I respect RSS, and my religiousness is above average if measured on a scale of all Indians. So when few of my friends from other religious backgrounds claim that The Ramayana & The Mahabharata are "mere" epics, I get irritated. Also, I get pissed off, when they claim that both Lord Rama & Lord Krishna almost never existed, and even if they did, then they can be seen as one of many "prophets" which existed on the earth, in the chain of the prophets described in the Bible & Quran.

Very well said.I have observed right from my childhood that we Indians take pride in denouncing our heritage and religeon, more so the Hindus. Is it because of the freedom in Hindu religoen the critics get away with anything.

Excellent Article, excellent thoughts. Wish some of this wisdom could go into the non-existent brains of our 'secularists'

Hurting the Hindu Cause -2

(Please also see "Hurting the Hindu Cause -1")
Lord Krishna is Shantasvarupa and Karunamayi. He is the noblest of the noble. Please do not bring ignominy on Him by claiming that he espoused violence. If you want to resort to violence please do not justify it with the proclamation that you have Lord Krishnas sanction and The Gitas sanction! DO NOT MISINTERPRET THE MESSAGE OF THE GITA. Lord Krishnas message is profound. Do not sully it. You are hurting Hindu religion with this misinterpretation. Our next generations may stay away from Hindu Dharma with this misconstruction that the Gita sanctions violence. Let our children know how hard Krishna tried to maintain peace , bring about peace. Conflict or war was always the last resort for him. Then they cannot help but feel proud of being a Hindu! Every religion has different interpretations for certain aspects. Pass on the right interpretation and positive messages to the next generation if you want Hindu Dharma to be carried on .The coming generations do not ccept things without questions answered. And they accept only the "right" answers.

Its not like birthdays. You count 1947 as year 1. Therefore, 2006 is year 60.

Joel,

Matehmatically you are right but logically wrong. The Col. is referring to the beginning of the 60th year of independence and the culmination of the 59th on Janmaashtami -- it nicely fits into the philosophy of no beginning and end, isn't it?

Let us all hope for a new beginning!

Don't subtract, include! Then it becomes 60. If the first independence *day* is Aug 15, 1947, then certainly Aug 15, 2006 is the 60th. It's independence day, not year. Next year will actually mark 60 years of independence, though the day will be the 61st.

WRONG.

This is the 59th year of our independence, true.
But this is the 60th Independence day.

The first Independence day was on 1947, so in 1948 we celebrated the _first year_ of indenpendence, but the SECOND independence day.

Horrible example
by Ved on Aug 16, 2006 12:56 AM  Permalink

Sir,
You have used wrong examples to make a right point. That Maculay quote you used is false. Maculay was a English patriot, he had disdain not jealousy for all things Indian. And he was no where in England on that day. Please don't fall for that right wing propaganda masquerading as nationalism.
"Krishna" in sanskrit means dark or black. So calling black deeds "krishna kruti" has no reference to Lord Krishna. The word didn't originate with Lord Krishna.

Happy Independance Day.
Ved
