its a lovely dream
by nikhil on Aug 24, 2006 02:30 PM  Permalink

what a lovely dream? India a superpower in 2010.
No way.. you can do anything, but india can't even be a superpower till 2020. Reason being, the benefits of civil society haven't reaced the masses, that make india. Politicians are just playing the game that they love. India was shining even when BJP was there, and is still shining.

But when it comes down to which india is shining? we know the reality. So, I doubt which india is going to be superpower by 2010.
Atleast the India, to which I belong, the india where there are so many poverty driven, health and basics of living ridden people live, doesn't seems to be moving much.

And, govt is playing caste game again. Everyone knows who is going to benefit from quota system. Not the really needy people, but the so called backward rich people, most of them who r businessmen or politicians kids.

India needs a complete reshuffling in attitude, morality, politics and so on. I hope some tsunami rises among young people and does that soon.

How'll India become a superpower
by Umesh Vora on Aug 24, 2006 02:19 AM  Permalink

Is it necessary for India to become a superpower (militarily) in 20 years? Instead if we adopt following three goals, belive me you, India will be a superpower, nukes or no nukes.
A) Provide Education:
1)every child born on and from 1/1/2007 put through College
2)current High school kids put through college
3)current out of High school and not in college kids put thru votech education
B)Provide Employment:
1) provide employment opportunities for all kids from above and men and woment now un or Under employed
C)Provide Health and better living conditions to all families.

How will India become superpower you are kidding
by an indian on Aug 22, 2006 05:15 PM  Permalink

I am one of the India skeptics. We need to achieve a lot before we even think of becoming a super power. I do not know why there is a super power obsession in media circles. Every 2 weeks we see an article on Super Power in leading newspapers. Only when India can raise the living standards of the pool people it needs to think of becoming super power. As long as there are millions of poor who struggle to meet thier basic necessities we could not think of becoming a super power. So stop this kind of useless discussions.

what's the use of mere discussions?
by Anand on Aug 22, 2006 02:10 PM  Permalink

I think we need to step out of merely discussing these aspects and get into implementing some of these ideas. If this forum can address implementation issues in addition to idea generation, that'll be the first dtep towars realising the dream of a developed INDIA !

India shall be a super power in our lifetimes - only if WE make it
by Sundaram on Aug 22, 2006 11:13 AM  Permalink

I suppose by superpower we mean a prosperous, powerful country. Military power inevitably comes from prosperity - Japan, for instance, is building up its military. Ultimately, what matters is that people should be happy, secure, and proud of their nation.
Great nations are not built by jingoistic slogans, but by true visionaries and patriots. Prosperity comes when people like you and me (the educated, previleged lot) do our bit in nation building - not just by paying taxes. How many of us thought of helping atleast *one* unfortunate fellow citizen a decent primary education? How many doctors among us devote just one day in a week treating poor patients? For too long we have followed socialism - you wait years just to buy a Bajaj scooter!! What we need instead is humanist ethics - and pride in our culture and nation. This must be complemented by our sincere, albeit humble efforts to help our fellow citizens lead a better life. As a team, my friends and I help underprevileged children with their math and science over the weekends. We look forward to meeting social organizations to see if they would be interested in calling us for engineering related work in villages.Jai Hind!

Its time that India develops
by junned khan on Aug 22, 2006 10:16 AM  Permalink

"Gar firdaus bar rue zameenast hamiasto, hamiasto, hamiast". If there is a paradise on earth, its here, its here, its here. India, oh our beloved India, is so beautiful, so many different people, such rich heritage, vast spread of natural resources, fertile land, beautiful seasons.

The only problem in India is that we Indians ourselves do not realise that we are living in a paradise on earth and dont keep it clean. And on the path of development and modernisation, we seldom act to take it where it ought to be.

Greed, callousness and carelessness, illiteracy, poverty, lack of infrastructure and poor maintenance of public facilities, etc. are some of the problems if removed will make India even bettter than America or Europe.

But there are challanges too; India offers development professionals, medical and engineering professionals so much challange and opportunities that they will find nowhere else. Why then they leave this beautiful country and spend their lives in the snobbish west.

All we should restrain from is making India a superpower. I sincerely pray that India becomes a super-socialist instead, where there is equality and justice not just military superiority

India Needs To Has Too Do A Lot Before Status Change
by Sudhanshu on Aug 22, 2006 10:15 AM  Permalink

India is at its current state fighting poverty, illiteracy, corruption, regional/religious divide, hunger. How many Indians are spending night on road sides without enough clothing to fight weather. Burgeoning population and alarming overcrowding. Then we have other problems of pollution and natural imbalance due to reckless making of dams. We see floods and earthquakes originating from them.
Children being sold at pity prices to earn bread.

Please we must look to get the basics right no point in arguing how and when will we become superpower whom do we want to impress on earth if our own people are living miserable life. I thank India for giving me a great life but I cannot ignore there is an alarming situation. People die just out of silly reasons, negligence of some authority.

We should try and work hard on hitting our core problems for may be one century continuously and then lets see where our coming generations see where we stand. As off now except for a minor percentage seeing some improvement its an air in the minds that we are near superpower. Superpower I feel is more about being internally strong rather take lessons from Chinese growth and history. JAI HIND.

Super power only when we deserve
by wahid on Aug 19, 2006 10:35 PM  Permalink

India, is still land of pleading paupers just by cities developing quick and fast,INDIA cant be a developed country or super power, Mind you Today USA is super power country if i can say.
point to be noted here is its also no 1 in crime too
we need to learn lesson from this, with great power comes greater responsibility, god knows what politicians will be up to
With super tag INDIA should also change its laws and must make strict, if any one violates, punishment should be sever
We can be Proud our self calling super power country in future to come not at this movement, definitely not in 2010
slowly there is progression in rural too, because of technology and lots of international companies targeting Indian Market and national markets will have no choice to market in rural places. This quick global changes in tech and digital world are getting INDIA closer to its dream SUPER POWER COUNTRY
