How dare you ....?
by george on Aug 01, 2006 11:29 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

How dare you talk about our soldiers. LTTE needs to pay the price for killing a former Indian PM, our soldiers & all the other atrocities they have done on our soil. They deserve what they are getting now. Lucky u fellas that our administartion is sloppy otherwise by now LTTE would have been referd in past tense. We feed u, we sheltered u........u ungrateful !@#$. Atleast the Sinhalas were openly opposed.Dont u think we will ever forgive u for your croc tears.SL tamils need to clearly seperate themselves & fight the tigers to prove themselves. Not that afew elite say they are against & rest of the people continue to supply donations to the cause from around the world.

Hi George, IPKF is named as innocent people killing force, they are brutal terrorist, they can't considered as Brave soldiers, why india supported tamil militans, for her own benefit, It doesn't want US to put the naval base in Trincomalee. Tigers didn't start the fight against IPKF, India was the one who did, Coward Rajiv Ghandi took Prabakaran signature on gunpoint at Ashoka Hotel Delhi.. before commenting something better know the history

cultural difference
by Ajit Achuthan on Aug 01, 2006 11:27 PM  Permalink

I have talked to several tamil and Sinhalese people from Srilanka. Unfortunately, the impression I got is that, Tamils consider themselves as elite class and intellectually superior. Sinhalese people think, Tamils are invaders. The division is more cultural. Other things are symptoms of this fundamental desease. As long as you cannot respect people of different culture this is what happens.

Whatever be the reasons for it, what LTTE are doing now is horrible, barbaric and stupid. As long as they follow this route they are not going to win the war. LTTE is doing harm not only for their cause, but Tamils worldwide.

Splitting a country is not a solution. That is historically proven.

We can not just sit one side and criticise
by Vijay on Aug 01, 2006 11:17 PM  Permalink

A thoroughly enlightening article. We were not at all aware of plights of our tamil brothers sitting in India.
India can not just sit aside as this is issue of our tamil brothers. A solution should be found out and Srilankan government should be made to be flexible.
Sending peace-keeping force is not the solution. Srilankan government should be made to change their ways.

cannot be forgiven .. !!!
by Parag on Aug 01, 2006 10:55 PM  Permalink

The article says that :-
"I understand the senseless killing of Rajiv Gandhi, the violence in the streets of Madras and other crimes committed on Indian soil cannot be easily pardoned."

Sir, forget easily .. these cannot be pardoned. Whoever in this world is killing innocent people should be brought to justice. Same applies to LTTE. I really wonder any no one mentions gandhiji .. such a great example with us to follow....

India should stay away and not tricked again
by Gautam Sinha on Aug 01, 2006 10:29 PM  Permalink

President of Sri Lanka can opt for Indian model , and publicly renounce violence. But it seems he is only interested in Sri Lankan model, then india has no role to play.

Then LTTE is also justified in holding freedum model. For disgruntled population India has gone to greatest extent of providing them maximum autonomy and Sri lanka can also learn from that. Nobody is supporting dismember of any country.

A Lankan Sinhala's lament
by Elmo Dias on Aug 01, 2006 09:28 PM  Permalink

I am happy that Yogendran does see the brutality of the LTTE as much as he sees the extremist and racist policies of SL governments.

Today, the world is moving away from labelling as "freedom fighters" those who perpetrate the so called "justified" violence. Their violent acts are also called terrorism today. If you kill with vengeance innocent civilians, men, women and children, if you train and send children for battle with a gun, if you murder all those who oppose you, if you donot allow the people to exercise their universal francise, if your daughters celebrate 21st birthdays in the western capitals, while the daughters of innocent Tamil girls and are sent "pregnant" with explosives as human bombs, that is called terrorism. One can hide in a jungle, but the jungle cannot hide the monstrosity of
ones action.
All SL leaders have erred so far. They have failed to make every citizen: equal before the law, provide with equal opportunities, respect and honour, develop all areas without discrimination.
If some leader or an accord can assure in word and deed the above and guarantee the basic human rights of all there is a hope. Hope that springs from assurance of equality.

Refreshing
by kivan on Aug 01, 2006 08:08 PM  Permalink

Being a Sinhalese, it's refreshing to see such articals published for the masses to see. I have many tamil friends, and my best friend is a tamil. I only hear these thoughts when I meet up with my tamil friends. I'm sure if they were to say these things in SL, they would end up dead. I agree, LTTE has tarnished the Tamils as a community, but as the author has rightly pointed out, they have left no other choice for the Tamil community in SL.

The GOSL is responsible for whats happening in SL. They have allowed the LTTE to take a community hostage. The authors is 100% right about the SL army generals. I'm sure there are a honest few but too few make a difference.

I don't think you and me would be lucky enough to see the day where we might live in peace togather in SL. But I hope at least our grandchildren's children will be able to. But with the kinda brainwashing going on in the north by the LTTE even the next generations are at risk.
