Hi, Sri Lanka is a small country, with limited resources. Its also a very beautiful country. I accept there were mistakes made in the past against Tamils but this is the new age. India has established itself as a regional super power and as big brother in the sub continent it should look to take active part in diputes so its neighbourhood remains at peace.
In the current context, I believe the Srilankan issue wont get resolved until India solves its kashmir problem. Its very unfortunate that LTTE become the sole savior of SriLankan tamils. Had the LTTE acted in a more responsible way in the past (co-operating with the IPKF instead of having secret agreement with Premadasa or at least by not assassinating Rajiv ) , this issue would have been in a totally different arena by now. We also need to accept that there are few hiccups happened in our IPKF actions and the execution.
As a Indian born Tamil I believe it is high to show my moral support to my Sri Lankan Tamil brothers sisters.
As Mr. Yogendran has pointed the Indian parliament being surrounded by failed self proclaimed policy makers like B.Raman , Dixit, Col Hariharan , Shyam Sundar, and Nirmala Subramaniyan. Who support Sinhalese genocide against Tamil in order to achive their failed Indian policy. Are they preparing to burry the Indian Tamils Interest tooo?
Is India maintain the one side support to Sinhalese and ignore Sri Lankan Tamil, because of Rajiv Gandhi assassination.. .How can we make the innocent people responsible for that?
If that case are we going bring all IPKF culprit for their WAR crimeand Human Right violation on Sri Lankan Tamil?
Are we going to bring the Radical Sri lankan navy man Vijithamuni Rohana de Silva for his attempt on Rajiv life infront T.N seshan and Doordharsan..
Are we ready to sacrifice entire Indian Tamil aspiration and grievance for their Sri lankan blood relation.
Why cant India insist the Federal solution in SriLanka
Today about 30 percent of the tamils live in Sinhala areas. They live and do business in Mt Lavinia, Wellawatte, Kotahena and Colombo etc. They live peacefully and are more at home in these areas than in LTTE areas. After 1983 riots Sri Lanka learnt a bitter lesson. Since then riots have not occured even after several suicide attacks that claimed a president, and several ministers. Even when ah Army commnander was killed in July 2006, riots did not occur. Even prior to 1983 Jaffna conducted ethnic cleansing. They expelled muslims and sinhala businessmen from Jaffna. Non Tamils were not allowed to buy land in Jaffna. THey have shot muslims in the mosque while praying, The LTTE supporters are still talking about the past. Sri Lanka has come a long way to address the Tamil grievences. Which country in the world has public signs in three languages. If you take a tour around Colombo and suburbs you see signs in Tamil and even some government letterheads have the minstries name in tamil. Universities have opened up in Jaffna and in Batticaloa. LTTE should get into some federal type (quebec style) solution. This will benefit all.The war is not going anywhere it creates more hatred.
i think the situation has gone too far for any realistic reconciliation between tamils and sinhalese.
though the ltte is way past its utility and has become a nuisance/menace, still given the insecurity of the tamils on the island, it is the only protection/refuge against sinhala militarism/chauvanism.
best solution is to provide some level of autonomy to the tamil regions and try to build peace. it is will take some time. in the meantime it would also be good to get the ltte to dilute its violence against civilians dissenters. the ltte will become inconsequential only when the tamils trust the sinhala leadership.
This article reflects the true nature of a Srilankan Tamil. These people are the most ungratefull people in the world. I am yet to meet a Srilankan Tamil who has truely repented for the crimes and atrocities they have committed in Tamilnadu. Eveything is justified as this or that; yet they want India to help. They swin to India; create problems; migrate to Canada; tamper with satellite dish for Tamil programs, collect money and send it back to LTTE. Then they complain about Sinhala brutality while they are the ones who are responsible for the mess. Only when the Srilankan Tamil community truely eschew voilence, learn to acclamatize with the adopted society will they have peace. Even in Canada they live in groups, patronize among themselves, fight among themselves (pro and against LTTE), use temples to collect money for the "cause", sit and complain about Sinhala chauinism. The truth is the Srilankan Tamil community is the most chaunistic community I have met. The author talks about IPKF attorcities. That is the biggest lie and a true reflection of what Srilankan Tamils are. It was the Srilankan Tamils who comitted attrocities in on a force that wanted to help them.
There should not be any reason for world to believe that they can negotiate with terrorists and LTTE is one of the most dreadly killing machine. It should be dismentled and destroyed. UN or Nato or Indian peace keeper should go to Srilanka and this time unlike the IPKF they should not go unprepared. They should carry all weapons at their disposal and use them againt these ruthless killers. Prabhakaran should be brought to justice. He is responsible for destroying a whole generation.
It is time the tamils stop talking about the past.If 60% of tamils can live in sinhala areas why cant the rest.either all the tamils decide to move away an establish themselves in the tamil areas or they agree to live amicably.Incidently the claim of the north and the east as a homeland has no historic basis.
