Articlw is very well written.I has to understand the hypocrasy of the Amercian behind such a nuclear deal as they want to control pakistan they are paliny there cards In favour of India,Untill now they were the great supporter of Pakistan and supported there Mass slaughter of People in Kashmir,But after the 9/11 Attack they have declared it as Act Of "ACT OF TERRORIST","ACT OF BABARSIM".
A very good article. US politicians are playing the same game as mulayam, playing politics of appeasing a particular community.
India as a country is well capable of developing the technology on its own, but its going to cost us lot of Money and many Years. If we have a good relationship with the US , we can have them in a years time rather than wait and try for our own after couple of decades.
Atleast we wont sell like pakistan has been doing to North korea and Iran. Who knows to which other countries they have sold to.
Well assessed article and its a fact. What I do not understand is, why a nation like India, need US Senate approval, for its nuclear requirement. We have to get away from the grips of US, and make our own decision. We are not a threat to US or US is not a threat to India. Rational manuevouring is good, but if push comes to shove, India should take its own decision, and ask US to take a walk. Of course Jewish lobby is reflected in American foreign policy, and no one including ethnic or Christian Americans, can do anything about it. The population of Jews are less than 5% in US, but in the administration, they are close to 50%, with solid influence on all matters concerning them, including domestic American policy. Let be tough with us, and chart our own course !!
There is another issue involved. The way India is soft-peddling Palestinain issue, now under terrorist HAMAS control.
India must understand, there is no place for organizations like HAMAS in the world. And it must express its displeasure at turn of events. Its nomore 'secular' days of Arafat.
Indian Foreign Minister from Muslim league deliberately skips visiting Israel, even though he vists Palestine. These must be stopped.
Indian interest dictates, we must pursue good relationship with isarel. Relationship with Hamas may fetch few votes for Secular parties in India, but India will have to pay a huge price in the future.
TVR Shenoy's piece is devoid of arguments and evidence to support his views. He has not offered any evidence that the Jewish lobby is opposing the deal. He has made no attempt to show that Israel does not want India to go ahead with the pipeline.
This piece makes no sense. Nationally, Jews are less than 1% of the US population. Even in Westchester County, Jews form a tiny minority of the electorate. (Also incorrect, but irrelevant to the argument, is the assertion that Blacks & Hispanics vote in greater percentages than Whites). Nor are most Jews' electoral concerns primarily focused around Israel, despite the claims of AIPAC, the powerful Israeli lobby. AIPAC's clout derives largely from the money it dispenses, not because it can rally votes.
The article's logic is also sketchy: the pipeline deal is years away from producing benefits and in any case, as the article points out, Iran is already flush with cash. India bowed to the US will on the nuclear issue, voted against Iran, and is rapidly becoming a US client state. It is simultaneously increasing its military cooperation with, and purchases from, Israel. None of these are actions that strengthen the Iranian threat to Israel; quite the contrary. Whatever the source of opposition to the Indo-US nuke deal, it is not the voting patterns of Israel-obsessed Jews in Westchester County.
