Why I'd live with every community
by MG Puranik on Apr 13, 2006 05:00 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

A hindu or a christian could have the similar views for muslim dominated places. Well, the crux of the matter is that we all ( so called educated people)must understand that the religion is STILL used by the politicians and other leaders with vested interests to misguide the masses. I know a no. of people who live like real friends among the company of all muslims, christians, sikhs and so on. Mind, it's US, the sane people of the country, who're responsible for taking our nation forward.
Therefore, (1) Reservation on religion and cast basis must be always opposed. (2) We all MUST cast our vote, that too to a deserving / honest candidate. (3) Secularism means live and let live people of other faiths.(4) Wherever we see discrimination, we must initiate action for justice. (5) Have a photograph of Dr. Abdul kalam on your desktop. He\'s the godsent visionary of our times. With his kind of philiosophy only, we\'ll be a developed and modern nation, worth living in.

Suggestions of Mr Puranik are really appreciable. We, responsible citizens of this country, must find out ways how to resolve caste/religion discrimination. Hindus from Mumbai can help this person find accomodation in any locality and they can also change the mindsets of agents, societies against any religion/catse.Mr Ashraf along with other educated muslims can also take initiative to create awareness amongs Muslims regarding country and indian cricket team as neighbouring countries will not do any favour to them and it is not possible to redraw country's borders now.Let us live and help others live peacefully.

u r all wrong
by anand on Apr 13, 2006 04:36 PM  Permalink

might be ur single experience is so souring.. but have u taken efforts to stop the conversion thats keep happening even after so much of bomb blasts and riots etc etc... Sorry for a very bad start!
we as citizens of India only think from our narrow perspective.
writing so narrow minded articles will never help u be a happy Indian and for God's sake do not ever let your next generation know about your narrow minded feelings.
India is the only place where muslims (shia n sunni) are well respected ... not even in the islam countries.
Take effort to make mumbai a better living place rather than making just noises!
Even in developed world discrimination is there... as long as human being live in this earth there will be such things... its not just the religion!!

Why I won't live among Hindus
by Ila on Apr 13, 2006 04:15 PM  Permalink

Continuing with this article, its not muslims alone who are subjected to such discrimmination. Its with the Hindus in middle class societies as was said in the article. The norm is power. The one who has power to run the society will do whatever comes in their minds and no one can question. What is shocking is educated public does not have brains to think in Mumbai. One idiot can drive a whole herd of technocrats and such people. Laloo's Bihar is very much embedded in the mindset of Mumbai.

division on religion.
by JOHN MATHAI on Apr 13, 2006 03:47 PM  Permalink

I fully endorse the feelings of the writer. I am also born and bought up in a society with a very friendly mixure of Christians and Hindus. Never, I thought of a difference between Hindus and Christians other than our Sunday worship and a couple of other congregations. In fact all of us lived together with out any difference on religious background. The day BJP relised that they can come to power only through the religious division, they started working on the theory of dividing the people on religious lines. BJP injected the poison of religious difference in to the mind of peace loving Hindus and not all but a few belived in their doctrine. Today for anything and everything, the first question thrown to you is to which religion you belongs. Let us stand together and say prowdly that we belong to one humanity and brotherhood is our ligion, then there is no need for anyone to fear about the religion of his neighbor.

Think
by ketan ingale on Apr 13, 2006 03:23 PM  Permalink

I have yet to find a hindu family who hates a muslim family, and vice versa. During riots when u see a muslim hitting a hindu or a hindu hitting a muslim..it simply means someone has paid those jobless people to do this type of work. If you are muslim and well earning with a proper job etc..will you ever go out take a knife or whatever and start killing a hindu. No I don't think so & niether a similar hindu will do it.
Stop blaming a hindu or muslim. Guys solution to all such problems is population control. You might laugh at me but seriouly think about it and you will find the truth behind it.

Yes we are segregating Muslims!!!
by Anu Bhambhani on Apr 13, 2006 03:20 PM  Permalink

Though I wouldn't wish to believe this but Mr. Ashraf is absolutely right when he says there is discrimination. There surely is! So many of my friends claim to have a secular view about things in general but when it comes to even eating out at a Muslim friend's wedding for example, their deep rooted prejudices come to the fore! It makes one feel so sad being surrounded by such double standards! In somewhat similar case, one of my uncle who is a Muslim and a friend of my father for more than 30 years now, lives in Delhi. He lived in a posh colony of Delhi for years but soon after the infamous Gujarat riots where Muslims were killed and destroyed in a planned manner, he decided it was better for his family to stay in a Muslim dominated area. Now he is living in Okhla, a Muslim area. And so the segregation of a Muslim family from the mainstream is done! We Indians have such double standards about things! I hate it!
