Hi, You do not need to feel like that
by Alok Shukla on Apr 11, 2006 11:04 AM  Permalink

Hi,

I can understand what you are feeling like. But then please understand there are thousand of new age Indians like me (incidentaly Hindu) who just do not care who they live with.

But the over governments are hell bent on making us divided. Look at the reservation issue, unnecessarily it has been made an issue between castes. So now i would be known by my case rather than an individual.

Also, when the government talk of muslim reservation. They also make sure that it is in opposition to hindus as such rather than doing something for muslim.

When we are deliberately made to think that we are Hindus rather than a normal Indian.

Only citizens like you and me can make this effort to bridge the gap.

I am sure that there are a lot of people like me who would help you in finding a house.

Alok

Hindu Muslim divide
by R Vijay Kumar on Apr 11, 2006 11:03 AM  Permalink

the hindu Muslim divide is an extension of the community divide that exist in india.
Talking of veg non-veg housing, no issues. As a builder I have promoted and sold flats to all veg families only and all in the building are veg. even after 25 years they have maintained this and transfer takes place to a veg only. NO ONE SHOULD CRIB ABOUT THIS.

Why I won't live among Hindus??
by Imran on Apr 11, 2006 11:03 AM  Permalink

Yes I agree with you. But in Mumbai the situation will never change only it will become worst from bad.

The Mumbai people are heading towards a division, not only in their personal life but in their social life.

What I belive is that the face of Mumbaikars on 26/7 was just a temporary phase. Its appears only on those kind of situations, in day to day matters it totally different.

If you think I am wrong than pls just travel one day in any local trains, or BEST bus or go to any markets, and you will what I said is correct.

This can be change, but people who can change this are not interested, who are they, YOUTH of today.

They are not interested in these things at all, they are more busy in career shaping. But they are forgetting any individual person is social animal too.

Why I won't live among Hindus
by Sundarraj Kaushik on Apr 11, 2006 11:02 AM  Permalink

The author has given only one side of the journey. Has it not happened that Muslim crowds tried to hurt the Hindus? In Mumbai? In Gujarat?

Only of BOTH sides can realise that they have to live like neighbours and still allow the other to be different in customs can we live together.

The author rightly says it is not only on religious grounds that we are split, we are split based on the caste, on the language we speak and anything else that can divide us.

We Indians need to learn to live as Indians first. But we have not yet. Even our constitution recognizes castes and religions. The hearts of the people have to change to accept that we are Indians, we are humans and only then the other classifications follow and those are irrelevant.

Only education can build that acceptance between us and nobody seems to be willing to give the children an education which teaches them that mankind is one, though the underlying message of every religion is the same. We are tied to our customs and lifestyle and feel that, that is the only right and correct way to live life. This leads to estrangement and disillusion.

poor muslims
by Hira on Apr 11, 2006 11:02 AM  Permalink

Wow! One poor muslim's harrowing experience at hindu hands. Mr Syed Firdaus Ashraf: decided to give hindus a chance to redeem themselves by living amongst them. Ever wondered what the hindus in kashmir & kashmiri pandits in delhi's slums go through - refugees as they are in their own land.

And the comment about veggies discriminating is telling - a poor veggie shd sufer fish smells to 'protect'the non-veggies'right but the non veggie shd not be considerate towards the veggie suffering fish smell: it betrays the deep seated muslim mindset of grab what you can, give nothing.

Mr Ashraf - if hindus bother you so much - take the train to your fatherland - the thecratic failed state in pakistan.
