Hindutva
by Sibin Sankar on Apr 11, 2006 11:52 AM  Permalink

Hi all.. I liked the article on the Hindu Society. I am with our friend in question here and it is a sad thing that has happened to him. We must agree to it. Come on people lets forget everything.. its time to move ahead. We have a long way to go as a country and things have just started looking better. Lets make it better and better. Everyone should realise one thing.. Including Hindus like me and the rest, Hinduism is not a religion.. its a way of life. You should be proud of this culture. We have been excepting all others and everything. Keep up our tradition and lets us be proud of it.

Biased article
by sheshkumar on Apr 11, 2006 11:52 AM  Permalink

Writter is triggering a controversery which we dont require at this hour. There are also many muslim localities where non-muslims are not allowed. If someone denies houses to others for issues like non-vegeterian, it is not wrong and same should be taken in right spirit. Writter should know that in India only you can see people belonging to diffrent community lives together(it is not possible in Pakistan, Bangaladesh). It is better for the writter not to use such a provocative title.

why i wont live among hinus
by Arv on Apr 11, 2006 11:52 AM  Permalink

my sympathies.

but search the reason in your heart and you will get the answer yourself.

what we get from the society depends a lot on what our community or group we are associated with, gives to the society.

do we believe in live and let live, do we care for the sensevities and values of the majority practised for ages, do we denounce violence, sepratism, intolerence vehemently as a group?

dont we intentionally pursue a lifestyle, dress-code, education patterns, etc to keep us away from the mainstream practices? just to maintain a very different identity whice will associate more with other cultures?

probably you will get the answer.

May i disagree
by Laukik Desai on Apr 11, 2006 11:52 AM  Permalink

Everyone discriminates against everyone. So whats the fuss about? I take pridein being an indian because all this discrimination has not taken us back with time. because i dont mind having a muslim maid. because i dont suspect the intentions of a muslim chaas walah near chaar minar. I would have certainly felt bad had i been told what the columnist had been told by the builder when he went to buy house at kadivali. But these are the impacts that morons create on our societies by their one time acts. Devils and Angels dont have a religion, they are just devils and angels.

Very Sorry
by NAGRAJ K V on Apr 11, 2006 11:51 AM  Permalink

We felt very sorry after going through the article.
We wish our society welcomes the open minded among muslims and send message across that if you come one step forward we would also put one step forward. This can encourage the others to join the main stream.

Patience & Perserverance
by Karsh on Apr 11, 2006 11:51 AM  Permalink

Sir,

I am extremely sorry to hear about this. You are very welcome to come to our Hindu locality in Hyderabad. If I say anything more, I guess I will only be hurting your sentiments. As for Mumbai... I hope you will kindly show more patience and perserverance to ensure that such outrageously irresponsible people change.

I am not sure this will be possible in your generation but I hope you will not lose the hope to see your children growing up in a society free of discrimination in India. If you lose that hope, I am sure you will also let your kids believe and behave like that gentleman you met.

I sincerely think that we are one generation away from getting rid of superficial beliefs, rigid stances, irresponsible social behaviour and in general a lack of civic sense in people. I hope every Indian will continue to have that hope and I hope every Indian will continue to spread that hope.

Secure the secularity
by Harsh dutta on Apr 11, 2006 11:51 AM  Permalink

This write-up is quite an embarassment for all the Indians. Why can't we look at the other person as just another human? I feel India is just secular on paper. I have friends of all religions - hindus, muslims, Sikhs, Jains - and there has never been any discrimination.

India's no.1 filmstar is a Muslim and he is admired because of his talents and not religion. Take for example, India's President is a Muslim and Prime Minister a Sikh. When there are such great examples of scularism, then why cannot certain Indian be friendly with each others.

I really empathise with the writer here, who tried to get into a Hindu locality (I even don't like writing on these lines). How can we save India from foreign invasions if we are so broken inside. It's time every Indian realises that we are one, and if it takes some heart and challenge to call the person of other religion his brother, then we are up for it.

RE: Why I won't live among Hindus

These kind of articles/writeups SHOULD never be published. I was expecting that rediff is a good un-biased information site. These kind of articles provoke voilance.

Comment on blog - Why I won't live among Hindus
by Smitha on Apr 11, 2006 11:50 AM  Permalink

Mr Ashraf,

I really feel bad about the problems that persist in our India. But I certainly would like you to take into account these points as well.

Would you live with a christian community who eats pork? You might, but there are lots of Muslims who would tell that is haram so we cannot bear and so on and so forth.

So, though it is saddening to get such reactions from people. But it is true that even Muslims have discrimination against other religions. I live in Kuwait and before coming to Kuwait, beleive me, for me all that mattered was the other person is a human being. But now, somewhere in the corner of my feelings I don't like muslims. That is because of my experiences with these people over here. But let me tell you, I have so many Muslim freinds who are still very dear to me.

So, I have learned to accept the fact that these religious matters are better left unsaid as each one feels that only their religion is right and all others are wrong. But frankly what I feel is all these religions are different paths that lead to the same God.

muslims and indians
by HIMANSHU BHUWALKA on Apr 11, 2006 11:50 AM  Permalink

dear mr. ashraf,

i was really moved by reaidng yr article.

really i m ashamed of calling myself an indian. what if a muslim wanna buy a house in a hindu locality?

its disgusting, mumbaikars are so cheap a people i didnt knew about it. thanx for letting us know.

definately, we as a indians should come forward and address these issue, because we are going to be a developed economy in another 6-7- years to come, and if we have this mindset, we can never call ourselves developed.

indians take pride in their culture and customs, but what you hv written is excatly not our culture.

we indians have become very harsh on fellow indians, and when we see a foreigner, we try to shower them with all our best things on them. why this apathy?

i remember some one told me that the worst city in india to live in is Bombay.

mr. ashraf, u must definately bring a suit on promoters like these , who debar you from yr constitutional rights of buying independently any thing.

you have all of my best wishes, Mr. S.F.Asharaf.

Thanx and best regards,

Truly Yours,

Himanshu Bhuwalka.
