Yes, i do understand your problem, which is very commen. I have got atleast 12 Muslims friends and i am home with all. But considering your problem, we all, who beleve in coexistance ( sah-astitva), have to resolve the problem only by awakening conscience of the people. We should not allow politicians to join us. Friend, i have already moved on this direction and i m getting fentastic results. But myself is one man effort. Much organised efforts are required in this direction. First condition is that we should be got desperated.
It seems the author has to take a few lessons on "Unity in Diversity." The title misleads the reader as it suggests that the thing is between Hindus and Muslims but it is not the case. This type of discrimination is there on earth. After all human beings are animals and they want to live in groups consisting of like-minded people.
in the area around church in chembur,no flats are sold to non christians in chembur.as exception ,non -christians have to shell out more money by the christian owners.this attitude is slowly changing. in ghatkopar areas only gujus/ jains get houses.even vegetarian but non -gujus are not entertained. so it is a fact that religious and caste discrimination do exist everywhere.
1)I heard Palestinians say "We can't live with Jews"
2)I heard Muslims of India before partition headed by Jinnah say "we can't live with Kafir Hindus; we want a separate nation"--n so Pakistan was created.
3) I heard Bosnian muslims cry for a separate state
4) I heard muslims in Western Province of China say "We want an independent state"
5) I heard muslims in Chechnya say "we can't live with Russians"
5) Finally I have seen Shias burning Sunni mosques and vice-versa in Iraq when only muslims are living there!!! It seems people of certain communities are always at war!!!
Mr.Syed, could you explain to me why are we seeing this scenario around the world? Any logical comments from anyone??

Superb... Mr. Syed please explain if not then please analyse reason & get your things corrected. Try to change yourself
Dear Friend, I have many many Muslim/christian/sikh friends who all live very happily in the same locality for decades now. This is true in many regions of India except for few places.
So please let's not panic, we must be careful in what say otherwise this information will be misunderstood by ppl all communities.
We all indians must make honest effort and strive to build a strong nation. It is takes time and effort and hard work.
Remember free India is very young nation (just 59 yrs old) when compared to USA with 300 yrs of freedom. It took 187 yrs ( 1777 to 1964) and many strong 'n great persons like Martin Luther King to get CIVIL RIGHTS/Equality for african american.
we indians must have a long term view, 'n must strive for a strong multi-cultural and united India, I think each one of us must take the initiative to help such ppl (ppl who don't sale or socialize with ppl of other communities) to see the best in ppl regardless of their religion and make them open-minded and show brotherly love one another.
Remember the onus is each one of us, so let's do our best and never give up on India 'n Indians.
I think you have a good question: "Why do we call ourselves Indians ... when we cannot stand our neighbours who belong to different religions and cultures?"
Even in big cities, people tend to live in blocks, defined by religion or sometimes caste. I have heard such stories from some Christian friends of mine in Chennai.
Sometimes these boundaries are reinforced by such "physical" issues like the smell of fish, or pork, or beef. I do know of instances of people refusing to sell to Bengalis because they will cook non-veg and therefore defile the house/ society.
There are also fears: Tamils staying in Bangalore, Sikhs in many cities in the North for many years after 1984, Hindus and Muslims in many riot-torn cities. Depending on the place, some fears are real, some are imagined.
But the ghettoisation is real enough. In most cities, you can learn from a local which area is populated by whom. And the boundaries are not too fluid.
I just wish you had had a different title, relating to the question at the end, not just your personal choice.
Let us not pour our hatred and anger, let us not deny the truth, let us ask "What we can do to be better at being Indians?"
I could not agree more with Mr Ashraf. Mr Ashraf however did into advise why is it that Muslims are not welcome in Hindu colonies / societies.
I used to live in Andheri in a cosmopolitan society. Around the time of Bakr Id one fine day we were shocked to see a ram tethered in the building on the 3rd floor. The Muslim flat owners would not agree despite polite pleas and requests to remove the ram from the passage and tie it at the backyard of the building. For nearly 10 odd days, the sacrificial ram was housed in the passage. A residential building being used as a cattle shed in Mumbai was my first experience of recalcitrance on religious issue. The stench of urine / crap and bleatings of the ram made those 10 odd days a living hell. But obviously, our Muslim friends were preparing for the religious acts.
I was not surprised after this event, the rates actually dropped in that building.
With such behaviour, do you blame others not wanting certain people as neighbours ?
