The feelings expressed by the Author are understandable. However there are a few questions which I want the Author to understand and answer-
1. Are Hindus/India the only People/Country Struggling to peacefully co-exist with Muslims?
2. Are Muslims not able to be a part of National Mainstream only India ?What about other countries?
In detail Hindus are perhaps the most peaceful societal group among the comity Nation States. They were attacked, Ambushed, looted and culturally Proselytized by Muslims in the Centuries before i.e Mohammad Bin Qasim (715 C.E), Mahmud Shabuddin Ghori (1191 C.E. and 1255 C.E), Allah-ud-din Khilji (1310 CE).
Now not only were the Hindus forcibly converted but also if resisted they were butchered. With this in perspective Hindus have been Magnanimous in accepting the Muslims and Trying to PEACEFULLY CO-EXIST with Muslims.
Across the world Muslims are having problem in so many places- Israel vs. Palestinian viz Hamas, Afghanistan viz Taliban, former Yugoslavia viz Serbs vs. Muslims etc.
The Author should have rename the Topic of the Article as Why cannot Muslims lives with others. I am not saying that all the Muslims in India are violent
It's realy surprised to me why my muslim friend thought taht way, India is big country, having big hurt and Hindus are one of that, stopped the balming to the Hindus,Evry one in this country has taken agenda to talk only against the Hidus, Pl note. If it is Hindu dominent country, then How the PM of the country is Sikh, The president is Muslims ( Sorry I have great honour of our missile Man)the powerful lady in the country is Christain rulling in the Hindu dominent country ? and why muslim required the different Laws? while this discrimination against muslims is so real and true in most of india, what rarely gets reported is that it is much more so for dalits. while muslims will still manage to get places to rent/buy in pre-dominantly hindu localities it is a 100 times more difficult for a dalit to do the same. i am a muslim by name (though a complete atheist in belief), but when i recently shifted to delhi i had no probelms renting a house in south delhi. some of my other muslim friends / relatives too have had no problems in finding houses in south delhi, gurgaon or east delhi. though i am told that in parts of west delhi the situation is similar to what the author describes. but even in delhi one finds muslim housing colonies and caste based housing colonies. even though i live in a rented flat in a south delhi dda colony, i am the only muslim there. unsafe? i suppose there is an element of risk but much less than i would face in a very muslim locality with my drinking and socialising... so i am okay about it. the problem is not so much that muslims do not get a place in hindu localities, but that much of middle class india is unwilling to break out of their caste/language/religion shells.

Sayign that... let me put my 2 cents here. The UPA govt is seriously trying to uplift the Muslims in this country. No one will have any doubt that the Muslim areas in the country is less development (Lets not argue on who is the cause for this under development). They have less infrastructure for education, etc. When a govt tries to seriously improve this situation... why is everyone making a fuss? Why is it being branded "Muslim appeasement"? UPA govt would not have invited George Bush to the country if it has been following Muslim appeasement.
So, let not get carried away with the dirty politics played by BJP/NDA. Rather than being a good opposition party, they are finding all reasons to sling mud on Sonia and Congress...
The question is , would you let a hindu live among your community ? Would you treat him like just another friend of your from your own community ?
I dont blame you for this thinking but the root cause lies deep inside to all the time in history, and in my opinion, extremists are the concern to society, Be it a hindu one or a muslim one.
The real question here is, why does this question of being a hindu or a muslim stand up ? Except for this drama created by politicians i dont think a common hindu or a muslim would ever be bothered by each other's existence. Take for example Babri masjid case, to all hindus and muslims who read this , who wanted a temple or a mosque there ? Why not just end up with 1 good cause like having some hospital or maybe an orphanage there and let anyone from any religion be treated and end this bloodshed.
I remember a saying by Baba Bulle Shah who says Bulleya Mandia dhaa masita dhaa, dhaa de jo vee dhenda, par ik na dhaavi dil bande da mera rabb dila which rehenda, (meaning oh bulle shaah destroy a mandir, destroy a mosuqe and detroy everything you can but not the heart of a human for thats where my god,my almighty lives)
