I disagree
by ABC on Apr 11, 2006 08:58 PM  Permalink

Hi my muslim friend,

Please please please write articles which may help hindus and muslims come together instead of wrting experiences that may aggravate more riots

My friend descrimination is not a story of one religion and you can find it everywhere. Most ppl experience it in their life with smaller or greater intensity but the smart one is that who dont care about these trivial things. I am sure it must be disheartening to u for once. I would still say that neither all hindus are like that and nor all Mumbai hindus can be like that. It is just a matter of ignorance and improper education among such kind of ppl. Everyone can not have high thoughts like A P J Kalam. And if descrimination exists among all hindus then the President of India would not have been Muslim and would not be most respected person by Indian society. You can bet on me that President of Pakistan can never be a Hindu.
I am a brahmin girl and my two best friends are muslim. They are more conservative then me and one of them is close to me but stays more with muslim community and Pakistani group (knowing the fact that many of our handsome soldiers are dying to save our country from terrorism). I take it positively that its a free world and people are practicing democracy. My other friend told me some stories of such riots in her community but she told me that her experience with rest of the hindus is very good and so she is not bothered by these things and she understands that this all stuff is created by politicians who purposely want to have riots.
This is a sad topic. If muslims have suffered from some hindus then hindus have also suffered from some muslims. To act like a smart person I would say we all need to forget such things to stop future riots. Because the feelings that u r dwelling with IS ONE OF THE MAIN REASON OF RIOTS. PLease please please write articles which may help hindus and muslims come together instead of wrting experiences that may aggravate more riots.

why i won't live among hindus
by Rahul Gambhir on Apr 11, 2006 08:51 PM  Permalink

I am sorry to hear that you had to face just discrimination. But to be upfront with you, I too have stayed in Mumbai, and as you have pointed out, its not only the Muslim but also Marathi folks who have to face a similar situation.

I have another comment or question for my dear Muslim friend. Why do Muslims in Mumbai or Pune burst crackers when Pakistan wins against India, what kind of mindset is that? I ask this as an Indian, and not Maharashtrian....

Introspection required by muslims
by p_jeet_singh on Apr 11, 2006 08:50 PM  Permalink

All Indians can peacefully co-habit barring muslims. It is not the problem of others faiths that muslims cannot live peacefully with others but muslims require introspection amongst themselves. Quit whining because riots do not happen on their own. It takes two hands to clap and any finger you point at others, you are pointing rest of the fingers on muslims too. It is a problem with YOU, ashraf, not the other way around.

Not discrimination
by prdp on Apr 11, 2006 08:43 PM  Permalink

Sir,

I am sorry you feel that way. Even after all of this you still consider yourself a muslim and give the muslim perspective of things. However, such discrimination exsists all over the world in housing communities. Birds of a feather flock together. Why have you called the other community a muslim one? If you are a vegetarian, it is indeed hard to stand the smell of fish being cooked. Such 'discrimination' is the right to excercise neighbourly influence and is an issue of tolerance. NOT DISCRIMINATION as you suggest. Please see things with an open mind. I have seen hindus being slaughtered in Bombay though I now have a muslim roommate. So understand it is in our eyes...
