the discrimination does not end there....
by vidyasagar on Apr 13, 2006 06:03 AM  Permalink

The discrimation in India doesn't only end between religion, castes and subcastes. The discrimination travels geographically also. It is difficult for south Indian to mingle in north India and vice versa .

Democratic India
by Pavan on Apr 13, 2006 05:24 AM  Permalink

If you read the subject you ppl would understand what i am talking about.... I am also a Hindu and have been in Gujarat and can understand the feeling what is being shown by our fellow country men...

I would just like to ask all the ppl in who have replied or posted a message over here, don't u think its high time for us to think past it...

For us to call one of the Biggest Democratic country and internally then fight with the stupid reasons as community and religion... I know ppl would be hurt by this but who made this religion and whats the important mantra in all of them... love, care, respect... if we r not able to follow them then could i ask what religion r we following... this is not for any particular community but for all of us as INDIANS. I am proud to be an INDIAN and can cross my heart to say that i never felt that discrimination, might be i am wonderland...

To tell the fact, inspite of being a Hindu i studied in a Christian misionary school which was in a muslim dominated area.. what more can u ASK.... think again...

its not correct to consider mumbai as base for the allegation
by varma on Apr 13, 2006 04:53 AM  Permalink

Its very sad to hear the incidents that happened, but mumbai is just a small place in India. There are many places in India i which we hindus and muslims live together harmoniously. Due to just some hindus the whole community cannot be blamed. If you see the muslim countries the number of other religion people is very negligeble but in India we have so many religions existing from such a long time, this it self is a good proof that every hindu is not like the one you explained in the article

Hi

Well you are lucky to still be in Bombay after the riots were over.
As for me as a Kashmiri Pandit it is unthinkable to return to the land where all my forefathers lived through the ages (with the oldest recorded history in the world). Our race is getting extinct and everybody is giving lip service and quoting our plight but nobody acts. You can find more support for animals from innumerable animal rights activists than fellow human beings like us whose race, culture and traditions are dying.

This is so orthodox!
by Bonda on Apr 13, 2006 03:38 AM  Permalink

I dont think this happens in well educated society anymore. Yes some orthodox conservative uneducated people might act like that but definitely not the mainstream as the article says.
It can be debated other way that Muslims dont want to be part of society since they dont trust the Hindus.

The argument can swing either way so I cant necessarily blame religion it is the people who act like that who should be blamed.

So it's ok for you to discriminate, but ...
by Sanjay on Apr 13, 2006 02:43 AM  Permalink

.. not ok for a bunch of Hindus to pick who they want living near them?

I'm sorry to hear about your family's experience... but much before the 1990's, Hindus in Muslim areas had very similar experiences. They sucked it up instead of crying about their victim status.
