Medha Patkar is only showing one side
by mihir on Apr 14, 2006 11:19 PM  Permalink

I dont agree with many of you. Sorry to say that but sincerely all the figures given by Ms. Medha Patkar and her team are more or less fictious. She comes with lot of figures differing everyday and sincerely fooling people. The dam oustees are given good consideration, they have created landlords out of nothing. A meagre farmer whose submerged land would have given him 70,000 was compensated to the tune of Rs 40 lacs. And this is just a single case
good and better land with all modern amenities are provided to them. In fact on visiting lot of resettled villages the NBA doesnt find support for continuously misguiding them. All the quotes are from national dailies like Times Of India and Indian Express.
So do not please get fooled by her she has got support from some foreign vested interest. Which could be exposed and truth behind her would be availabe to the world.
At the same time stopping dam construction would make the whole effort till now waste and wont give any solution towards the problems for which the whole effort was made.
Water would never reach parched lands of Kutchh and Rajasthan if height is not increased. At the same time energy needs wont see thru.

Narmada Protest
by Malavika on Apr 14, 2006 08:24 PM  Permalink

I feel guilty that I have been an alien to all the political issues in India. I would not have given a second glance at this article if not for Amir Khan's name being slapped on the headlines. Its a shame , how we (including myself)vote and voice our opinion on matters that concern bollywood and not real issues such as these. The Cauvery project is one such issue that keeps dragging its feet as people go without water everyday . I should say my eight year old ,is more aware of these issues than myself . But this has been an eye opener to me. Legal heads being bestowed with so much power act responsibly in favor of the Indian people. Kudoos to Ms. Patkar!!

How can the union govt. be so insensitive to the plight of the people, whose livelihood depends on land , which will be submerged? And so much distruction for Prosperous States like Maharashtra and Gujarat, who have a history of being extravagant.Medha Patkar is the voice of the millions who may be drowned in the anarchy of the FEW "GOOD" MEN!If the is light at the end of the tunnel, then it is because a few men have drowned for it!

fasting by Medha Patekar
by shaswat on Apr 10, 2006 02:20 PM  Permalink

I would totally disagree with the steps initiated by Medha Patekar. We are now in generationext and no nation can develope without adequate supply of power. Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP) is a revolutionery step in the route of our progress. Although it would make hundreds of people homeless but it will make employment opportunities for the local youths. This is the thing that is happening in my native place Guwahati. (Assam). Govt. decided to make flyover in certain area to avoid traffic congestion but people are shouting that would destroy aesthetic appeal as well history of Guwahati and so so ..... But to make a developed country history needs to be destroyed up to some extent...

Dear Mr. Kamal,

It is easy to talk about development by sitting in the comfort of your home. You dont realise at what cost this development comes which promises to give you a developed state, because you will still have your shelter and livelihood. There may be a lot of problems with 'Social Activists' according to u. But the problem with people like you who do not appreciate the efforts put in by them and just speak ill abt them is that, they are mere selfish people and have no clue what actually means by a 'Developed Country'. Depriving millions of ppl of their livelihood and leaving them homeless without a reason to live is not what you call a step towards development. And i strongly suggest u try to get into the details of what these 'Emotionally Blackmailing Sociall activists' are trying to do. Only then will you realise that what they want is actual development and not what you understand from the word 'Development'.

Feel free to reply to me.

She is fighting for a great Cause and We all Indians are with her. We have to show the nation the power of people. I think After Independence, she is the first woman to come up for fighing on behalf of the people.
