How about your bernard.. why dont you step up .. posting messages on the message board wont be of any help...
It is very disheartening that an educated and apprently sensitive PM could be so insensitive. This lady is crying for years together for the cause of the poor people with no fault of their own and these "development leaders" are not even bothered
India with a population of one hundred crores plus needs to utilise all resources to fullest extent possible to increase our the standards of living. Water is one of primary requirement for the progress and development of our society. Better water utilisation is essential for meeting food needs of our population. We can take care of all the tribes, afforestation etc by careful planning. We can even achieve this through direction supreme court to the concerned governments [Both central and state]. To ensure food grais security to the future needs of our people, we have to make long term planning in this type of irrigation projects.

Then move forward and do something for people who is suffering, instead of protesting against progress.
I'm sure you won't find more people other then some activist's supporters.

hello rez Medha Patkar and NBA Activist threaten people and telling them not to take any benefite for any rehabilitation why? from the last six years, the NBA activists have been involved in violence and have 200 FIRs against them. medh patkar should help govt to rehabilate to people but she is not. here fact of rehabilation: While the total number of PAFs rehabilitated has gone up to 18,093 -- 11,570 PAFs had been rehabilitated at 236 sites in seven districts of Gujarat -- Vadodara, Narmada, Kaira, Bharuch, Ahmedabad, Panchmahal and Surat, it said.
6,037 PAFs from Madhya Pradesh and 807 PAFs from Maharashtra out of a total of 11570 PAFs were resettled in Gujarat, it said. The remaining 4,726 PAFS had already been rehabilitated earlier in the same state. Truth of rehabilitation:
Total need to rehabilitate: 16156 From that rehabilitated by Gujarat: 2234 From that rehabilitated by Madhya Pradesh: 13918 Rehabilitated by Special category(by cash money so they can buy land as they like):3879 So, nearly 90 per cent affected persons at the height of 121.92 meters are rehabilitated till date and efforts were going on in full swing to rehabilitate the remaining
If Medha Patkar has "think" capability, she should work towards providing solution rather than depriving people their right to water, right to agriculture, right to jobs , right to electricity and right to growth in economy. By stalling the project, everyone has been a loser. Worse still, this person has deprived a number of people of their livelihoods. May someone make this person think towards providing solutions rather than create problems? That's what "education" is supposed to deliver.

The solution is rehabilitation and Medha has been crying for it for quite some time now ...
She is not in favor of depriving people from getting water and all that ... If these guys are not rehabilitated now .. they they never will be.. and hence the fight for rehabilitation first ...
Please understand the cause ... If not supporting such a cause .. at least please dont criticise .. We are busy earning money .. having fun .. living life .. but there are people like Medha who have sacrificed theirs for true causes like these ..
I m kailash N, bhardwaj, Researcher in Deptt of Environment Sciences, HNB Garhwal University, Srnagar-Garhwal, Uttaranchal. We are too facing the problem of big dam.
as far as the construction of dams for irrigation or hydroelectric generation is concerned, i m of openion the smaller dams. they r cost effective, environmentally supprtive and socially very good. they r not at all destructive to environment and also a good electricity generator.
i support Medha Patekar as she is only genuin thinker of environment and under privilaged masses.

Now consider the other side, How many people have really lost their good land? The villages they were staying in had none of the basic amenity and flood destroy every thing there each year. Government of all the four states have agreed and cooperated well to rehabitate the poor and needy villagers. Most of the villagers are even happy with their new location and they are allowed to use their old land till they come under submergence as well.

Respected Medha should stay in the villages of Saurashtra, Kutch and Rajasthan where even today, women walk miles before they get potfull of drinking water. Imagine our mothers and sisters walking for 15 k.m. daily just to bring drinking water for the family. Is it not their birth right to get the water for drinking? Or let she stay at any place Bharuch,Narmada distrcict of Gujarat, where flood toll is in two figures every year and crores of loss to public and private property.Millions of cusecs(1000 ltrs) of non saline soft water meet sea unutilized.
Dams on Narmada river is the answer.

Madam Medha its high time and a warning to stop this psuedo protest, backed by only motive of getting easy publicity and driven by wasted interests.

Dear friend, I would love to see you at least once read the published articles about the NBA and their struggle. So many of them are available. Most of them clearly answerign all your question. Read the one which Arundhati Roy publish, which will be still available in market. Nobody is against the dam, but all are concerned about the human aspects of the constructions. You shoudl have understand that, although the sardar sarover is in the name of Kutch and Sourashtra, only 1% of the water is sheduled to send there. I visited narmada valley first time in 1995 with the same concept as yours. But I was transformed totally with once I was there. I love to say that Medha Patkar is the most genuine personality in the world living fora real reason. I also love to compare her with Ganhi go gave us this freedom of expression. She is going to be the most successfull motivator in the Indian history.

Why are you asking Medha to stay in Rajasthan to see the difficulties of people walking for 15 kms for water?? She is doing what she can for the people affected by the SSP. If you have seen and are concerned about the people walking for 15Kms for water .. Why dont u help?
If a person is doing some good for society, if not supporting her .. at least dont criticise her. Please consider the following points... 1. Several Technical Experts are in favor of smaller dams 2. World Bank walked out of the SSP as per the Morse Commision, it was identified that the plan is flawed, rehabilitation of all affected was deemed to be next to impossible 3. Finally, Medha is not against Technology or helping people get water. She is for proper rehabilitation of the people affected. If they are not rehabilitated now ... will they ever be?
The movement's concerns are genuine. Further I wonder whether after all the dams of the visualized Narmada master plan are built whether any water will be left for Gujarat government's dream project of Kalpasar reservoir across the Gulf of Khambhat. Instead of one gigatic dam it may be better to reduce risks and social costs by building distributed smaller dams for the equivalent storage capacity.

I have no doubts about Ms. Patkar's good intensions. But her effort is in wrong place and direction. I lived in those parts of Saurashtra where there is acute shortage of drinking water. Ms. Patkar should have started a movement in those areas of Gujarat and Rajasthan to build check dams and other means, which she says, is solution to water problem. If their drinking problem is not sorted out they have to leave everything and migrate in few years. If she would have been successful in solving a larger number of people's problem, then there was no necessity to build/ rise height of Narmada Dam, which is her aim. She could have achieved it. I see readers talking about corruption as the reason for building Dams. I do not rule out the fact that corruptions exist in such projects. However, to say that is the reason for building the dam is laughable. Also, one should note that so many people lost their land and houses in all projects including Golden quadrilateral project. If everyone sit in hunger strikes we would been living in Stone Age.
