A very sad but true fact!
by Rakesh on Sep 27, 2005 06:49 PM  Permalink

I totally agree with what is said here. In the present era, it's the media that rules and whoever connects properly to the media is the winner. Look at the energetic, media friendly, charismatic heads of other prominent countries and compare that with our frail, aged, sleep walking Bajpayeejis and Manmohan Sings. However evil, dodgy and liar Musharraf may be, one thing is certain he gets the spotlight wherever he goes, partly due to his charisma and party due to his bold, controversial statements. Here is London, UK he gets much much more media coverage than our Presidents/PM's who hardly gets a line or two at prominent events.
Moreover look at our other, so called ministers (foreign minister, minister of external affairs, home minister, home secretary, press secretary etc etc) and you'll see how impotant these guys are. Each and everyone dread to make statements to foreign press and when pressed on the maximum they can utter is: No comments. Each rely on other to carry the flag or are afraid of making wrong statements. On the contrary the Pakistani ministers/ambassadors/press secretaries are loved by the media as they never shy off from them and always make bold united statements

Brahma Chellaney
by Rajesh Bhatnagar on Sep 27, 2005 01:14 PM  Permalink

I fully agree with Mr Chellaney.India should not give much importance to Pak,till there is stable Democratic govt. in Pak.India should remain fully focused with its National interest in mind and also should not give much room to US.After all U.S is also interested in Pak for its stratigic interest viza viz to have control on west-central Asia(Iran,Iraq, afganistan, etc) at the same time
to have stratigic dept for China-India.And that is the biggest reason why USA is not punishing Pakistan for its all wrong doing be it neuclear prolifiration to other nations or terrorism.USA always work for Long term stratigic interest. So India should work in the same way in order to achive Global Power status.

Let Pakistan not set the agenda

There are 3 categories of leaders:
1 Leaders who learns by other's mistakes.
2 Leaders who learns by their own mistakes.
3 Leaders who instead of learning of any lessons go on repeating the same mistakes and glorify them.
The 3 rd category of leaders are the fools and unfortunately they are our governing Netas.
God only save this country.

Kashmir can only be a part of us
by Anand Upadhyay on Sep 27, 2005 11:53 AM  Permalink

Why doesnt the Indian leadership understand one basic thing that Kashmiris and Kashmir is one and part of one unified India. Whatever happened during the Independence fiasco is past. Yes History should be written again, not go back and refer to instances then. Get Kashmir rid of the pakistani elements, also get Kashmir rid of the corrupt local politicians and make Pakistan understand that either they take back their elements or we will take back our POK. Is that too difficult for a nation which speaks so loud of its achievements and capabilities. Once we take the stand NA and EU will follow. pakistan is a terrorist state, isolated and deserted. They also know that. Its time for the Indian side to act and act hard.

Let Pakistan not set the agenda
by Suresh Mishra on Sep 27, 2005 11:45 AM  Permalink

This is absolutely ridiculous, but the fact is how do we show our pathetic leaders their face which they have blackened & put us at shame just to keep themselves in rule. And I am really surprised to see that a responsible & a good leader like Manmohan Singh has done it. I don't think he is really a short sighted man but this is very clear cut picture of what is happening & what it should be, then why He has taken such an illogical stand.
Can we raise these questions to our leaders & make them answerable to all that they decide without keeping country's interest in mind.

Let Pakistan not set the agenda

I fully endorse the views of Brahma Chellaney. My question however is, what is the Centre for Policy Research doing to guide the Government? What is the IDSA doing and what are the Intelligence Agencies doing to brief the PM before such visits. Should we surmise that our PM is dumb and he doesn't understand the foreign policy or is it that all the agencies who are paid to be think tanks of the Nation are sulking? Are there any threats to the existence of the present Government in the sense that the so called famous CIA is arm-twisting the present Government? Surely PM is not the only guy to think and make policies. Are all our Babus warming the chairs in the Ministry so dumb that we can't put up a credible front to deal with the rabid dog and perpetual liar called Musharraf? These are few of many questions I would like Mr. Brhma Chellaney to answer.

Yes, the reporter was right in saying that no leader has shown any guts in asking about status of POK. When they term it as AZAD KASHMIR then why do the Generals from Pakistan are appointed to be the Premeirs? Let them demonstrate that they really want the rights of the Kashmiris at heart by holding elections in AZAD KASHMIR.
