Time to stop being a spectator
by dilip on Mar 02, 2006 10:11 AM  Permalink

It is tme for India to stop being a spectator taking neutral stands on each occassion. India needs energy via. oil, nuke, and what ever else available and the focus should be on this matter.

There is no point in 'Anti US sentiments'..etc. etc. The left parties should please understand since India is not self sufficient in its energy supplies and likewise in many areas and hence should go out and get them by interacting, supporting and doing business with other nations. There is no point in holding on to theories which has no practical uses in its time.

Good going Dr.Singh..the people of India looks forward to people like you!!

Jai Hind

good article

India has to think of its own population's strategic need. In 1990 when President Bush invaded Iraq, India lost 50% of oil source and India's economy plunged. Luckily the development of software and good weather for agriculture sustained India's economy. Electricity generated by nuclear power has its own risks. Where do you store spent fuel rods? India needs to keep U.S. happy but at the same time the opportunity in developing relationship with Iran should not be given up. Iran is a fundamentalist country but still it is a democratically elected government. India should do what is ethical and right. What would Mahatma Gandhi and Subash Chandra Bose would have done in this juncture?

India catch 22
by Dr. Pinakin Arvind Patel on Oct 17, 2005 12:29 PM  Permalink

After going through all the comments on the given article, I personally think that India should support countries like USA and Israel, as they are non muslim countries and they can provide us with various oppurtunities and resources in near future to globally map India as a developed and strong country.
Also countries like USA, UK,Canada and many more, now recognizes what Indian talent is and are supporting us oue economy by outsourcing there IT jobs to India, though they are also getting cheap labor.(Symboitic relation which is always good for either side).

Also I totally agree with one of the author's comments, that Iran will definately support countries like Pakistan if time demands. India has learned a similar type of treatment from Bangladesh, a country CREATED by Indians and now a country totally against Indian, mercilessly Killing our soldiers and supporting Pakistani militants to ruin India.

Last but not the least, being a die hard Hindustan premi,I praise India in terms of making important decision like this and supporting USA. God bless India forever.

maintain a balance
by sunil on Oct 16, 2005 11:00 PM  Permalink

Although US is a chameleon and can change its colour there's no way you can trust an islamic country. I am not an anti islamist but history is evidence that no islamic country can be trusted. So India should maintain a balance in its support to Iran/US and not completely devote itself to one as both of them are not completely trustworthy. Apparently Iran might look more friendly but as said before no way we can be assured that it will help us in case of emergency..you know what i mean - war with Pakistan. When they are not completely supporting us why bother we do that and invite trouble.

India's catch 22
by james on Sep 23, 2005 12:46 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

India should decide it's future. Either improve reation with US and Israel and be bold in its decissions or keep patting nations like Iran which will not back india if there is a conflict with another Islamic nation.

Iran is deciding its future by defying US and Europe. Why should India get involved in this?. Be nutral in this issue at leave it to the big guys to fight it out. India should not get involved in this and abstain from voting if it comes to UN.

In this way India can avoid damaging relations with US. Same time will not break reations with Iran which is purely business related.

Yes. the best option is to keep our mouths shut. there is no need for us to take sides. But the problem is that even international events are used by the Congress for vote bank politics even if they are harmful for the country. They have the history of Khilafat movement which had nothing to do with us, but gandhi and his friends foolishly supported.

It's a no brainer
by Sunil Bondalapati on Sep 21, 2005 08:22 PM  Permalink

I don't understand what the catch 22 is here for India. India needs to pick a side, which is a no brainer, USA & Israel. The USA has been giving us Billions of dollars of business every year. Thanks to the USA, the future of Millions of Indian Kids is looking bright and rosy, they are helping India in a number of ways which are not readily discernable. Israel also has been a true frind, supplying us with defence and anti-terrorism technology we desperately need. If ever India had true friends who have our best interest at heart, it is the USA & Israel.

The best interests of Israel are also the best interests of India in a lot of ways. The jewish lobbies in the USA too have been very actively helping the causes of India. And this is how we repay their hand of frienship?

Me thinks it is time we have a pragmatic foreign policy rather than have one that is coloured by idealogical blinkers.

Iran,poor guy!
by tcmhos@yahoo.com.cn on Sep 21, 2005 10:15 AM  Permalink

It is a hot topic about Nuclear Weapon. Both Iran and N-korea are on the spotlight.Fortunately, with the help from China,N-korea succeeded to make a big deal with US on the N-weapon issue. And China even gained more.China catch the chance to show its power and impact, and help US out of the trap of N-korea crisis. In fact,US do realise the china role and position to maintain the peace of east asia. And the china-threat rumor will vanish gradually. But Iran is lack of the powerful friends.EU? I have to say that they are doing their best to make them embarrassed.India? I doubt if india will sacrifice the interest of Iran in order to maintain the honeymoon relationship with US.POOR GUY,IRAN!

We should do this!!!!!!!!!
by anand n vidwansa on Sep 20, 2005 11:56 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

India should strengthen its relations with Iran. Because this is what time demands. We need oil, presence in middle east, and Iran needs modern technology and an international friend. Moreover, this relationship can keep both Pakistan and US in their boots.

Certainly, strenghten relations with Iran by all bilateral means. But do not do it by foolishly scolding or abusing other powers, that too powerful actors like USA and Israel. Do not get involved in the Iran-US fracas. We are not big enough, even though our mouth is. Even a powerful country like China keeps mum
