I agree with the author to an extent. But, yes, Sania is the one who has to decide and she has to wear full dress and try playing. Who knows she may start a new 'fashion' or trend and all the girls and women out there are forced to be modest. Then more Indian girls, not just muslims, who dont take sports because of the dress people wear can compete and excel. I think if she can pull it off, that will be the most remarkable thing to happen to sports for women.

May be you would also like to see Indian Women cricket team playing wearing "Sarees" or "Salwar Kurta". And how about women swimming team, doing diving and backflipand butterfly, wearing Sarees or burkhas. Howz dat!!!!!!!!!
Why is this an issue?

I really don't see why Sania needs to be apologetoc at all about what she wears and I definitely don't think that what one chooses to wear needs to be justified to anyone. Her dress is not a reflection of her morality. Adherence to religious and societal norms is a part of it but morality and character goes beyond just that. Those who are not able to look beyond her skirt have no right to comment on her religion. This is not just an issue of a dress code of sports. this is a larger issue about our chioces too.

Hello sir
U r in 21st century.there is no room for modesty and tradition. No women wants to expose her parts to all.Ther is a need of comfort and sania is fulfilling for winning the match. Please dont obstruct her with these messages
I really don't understand why this is an issue. Why are we mixing religion and sports? Religion is a private matter and sports should not be mixed with it. When Sania plays, every one feels that she is a sportswoman from India and all Indians (irrespective of religion, caste etc.,) are really proud of her achievements. Outside India, none is bothered which religion she is from. It is not good for her and sports of India to continue to discuss this topics towards religion. Every one wants her to go up and up the ladder in Tennis and bring lots of accolodes to her and to her motherland India. My humble request is to leave her alone and let her do her job - play great tennis. Jai Hind !!!

The article only goes to show either the author is terribly confused or he actually supports the maulvi's point of view but is scared to hit back at sania. Country always comes first before religion no matter what. Javagal srinath started eating meat and he would have done this reluctantly and put himself in an uncomfortable position to do so being a vegetarian for so many years. Thats called sacrifice. Sania was also reluctant to follow the tennis dress code. However, she still went ahead and made her country proud. Any broadminded person would understand this unless he isn't. I think the maulvi should start bothering about greater issues like poverty etc. rather than cribbing about a dress code since service to mankind is service to god.

Ashraf. The author is rightly pointing out that such things still go on in 21st century. We all strongly need to condemn the maulvi. This is a free open democratic society. More people should join in condemning. we are not living in a medieval age Islamic country ruled by a tyrant. The Maulvi ought to be tried in courts for issuing threats.
Hey TVR, if you think you are a real pro and a patriotic Indian you should ignore and keep away from such moulivi(s). This kind of columns/editorials can only put pressure on the budding sport personality. I wish you journalists could do some constructive work (and help the motherland) rather then doing what you are trying do here.

The maulvies r right. They should now go after every Muslim Indian women and get then in the Islamic burkas. If they dont listen, let them beat them up like the Taliban maulvies did in broad daylight.

Assalaamu Alaikum! Brother Ashraf,
We Muslims are slaves of Allah SWT & hence it is obligatory upon us to Obey His commandments & to worship Him & Praise Him for His bounties.Brother it is not wise to discard the advice from Islamic Scholars as they are superior to you & me in knowledge of Deen. They have a greater understanding of Quran & Ahadith and hence they comment only based on the truth revealed in Quran & Ahadith.
Today as Muslims we are going away from Islam & following the wispers of Shaitaan.
May Allah SWT increase our knowledge of Deen & keep us steadfast in Islam till our last breath.Ameen.
