the dress code
by nkdileep69 on Sep 16, 2005 01:14 PM  Permalink

i think that the whole thing is just blown out of proportion, the mullah needs his 3 minutes of fame and where else to find but the media.

one cannot blame him, poor chap, all this time he must have been a cricket fan and suddenly this new game must have jolted him

non-sense
by Sajith on Sep 16, 2005 01:11 PM  Permalink

I think its utter non-sense to discuss on this issue.

Why the so called Maulvi's question Actresses?? Don't they show more skin than Sania does.Don't they behave more vulgarily on screen?? Sania has openly agrees that she is not comfortable in those dresses but its her profession that forces her to do so. So, whats the problem? Such maulvi's should be asked to shut there mouth and sit and not disturb the mind of a raising star.

Why short skirt is required to play tennis, example given of long skirt was in the begining of 20th century but if we talk about when Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert Lyod played in their youth their skirts were much longer than present skirts and it is becoming smaller and smaller. The speed with which the size is reducing the days are not far off when it will be difficult to tell whether its a tennis match or swimming competition.

I see no problem in wearing pants will hamper their speed other wise cricket should be played in shorts, if cricket can follow the tradition why not tennis just b'coz they want to glamourize it.

Why newspapers print only those photos of female players in which either their skirt or Tshirt going up.

Lets enjoy the game and do not make it a fashion show(where you do not understand what they are trying to show.)

The player can wear whatever is comfortable for him/her to play. Probably few decades back Indian women never used to wear dresses that would be an inch above the ankles. Now you are accepting that she can wear something upto her knees because its in ur mind that something above knees is vulgar but thats not the way things work practically.

Might be because of your narrow mentality many talented muslim girls would be sitting home wasting her life. Dont forget if a girl has skills its gifted by God and you have no right to put in ur own rules and waste that gift of life

If Ali says most of the people come to watch females playing tenis, then why do women come to watch the game??? If people got a Vulgar mind then they might be more of watching the female than the game. If u dont understand the game and u have a vulgar mind then I guess u need some treatment or might be some meditation which will make a Vulgar free mind for u.

SO LETS SUPPORT SANIA, instead of commenting on her Dress Code.

Inappropriate
by Ali on Sep 16, 2005 01:01 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I have to say that it's inappropriate for Sania to continue exposing her body just to make money and attain fame. I also disagree with Mr. Shenoy when he says that a little lengthier shorts would act as an impediment to speed and flexibility. If that's the case, Rafael Nadal wouldn't have won this year's French Open (wearing pants). Sania has to be aware that most of the people watch women's tennis not because of their love towards the game but to watch the underwear and wet T-shirts of players. The vulgar comments made by some of my friends, regarding Sania, while watching the matches, are still fresh in my mind. Most of them do not even understand how the points are won, yet they watch the game. None of us are so naive not to be able to understand why they watch the game. The bottom line is that nobody can claim to be a devout muslim by openly flouting the basic requirements of being a muslim.

Ali.
whether one is drevout muslim or not, is not for you to decide. sania will not call you to be her advocate in front of Allah on judgement day. So don't you bother about saving her soul.

Dude, This is India which is supposed to be a secular nation where everybody has a right to make his/her choices. If you have a problem accepting indiviual freedom, i suggest you move to Iran or Pakistan or even Afganistan where you can try to get the taliban back in power.

Let us all Congratulate and feel proud as she is a gem in the crown
by Padma on Sep 16, 2005 12:55 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We all Indians must remember that religion is something very personal, we must try to encourage Sania rather commenting on things like dress/hair.

Why does one needs to look at her dress instead of her play and achievement.

I must congratulate Sania for her achievement and bestwishes for her bright future.

Let us all consider that we all Indians instead of Hindu/Musilim/abcd

Sania is an Female Indian Ambassador to the world of sport, join hands together to cheer her up.

Padma

My dear padma

I totally agree with u.we should feel proud and not look upon the tennis star as a infringer of islam.there is no work for maulvi or shenoy to speak about unecessary aspects only to pester her

Dress code of Islamic law
by santosh shanbhag on Sep 16, 2005 12:49 PM  Permalink

I appreciate Sri shenoy's words.

I also want to know why the Maulvi is questioning these things. Before tht he has to question the same to some of the Muslim stars of the Bollywood & other filmactors who are Muslims who shed their clothes without any shame only for the sake of name & money. Please mend them first & be broad minded in case of Sania who has excelled our motherland's fame in the field of sports. The Maulvi should think in respect of our country and not in the name of any religion.
