it's high time the Government of India put all those jamaat people into custody and ensure that they don't disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the nation in the name of religion. They have always been misleading the community in the name of the Religion.....Islam doesn't preach any such thing these jamaats pass verdict on.

Grow Up
by M Ashraf on Sep 16, 2005 09:13 PM  Permalink

Hi TVR!
Its sickening to read such articles appearing regularly on rediff. Its better if you and others like you could use your intellectual faculties for a better purpose. Some obscure maulvi says something about a budding sportpersons dress and this gives you a chance to sensationalise.
This sensationalism benefits only two persons, you and the obscure maulvi, by way of giving some publicity.

Best wishes,
M Ashraf

stop fussing about
by lakshmip on Sep 16, 2005 09:12 PM  Permalink

This issue though known to many has not been in the limelight of the media. I would humbly request the media not to hype it further. It would be better to give a deaf hear to the fatwa and the voice raised by the unsolicited maulvis.

There are plenty muslim faces in the Indian film industry, whose dress code is in no way appreciable. The Islamic leaders could rather explain as to how that had been justified all these years.

Hmm My View

Seems like the majority of the readers prefer that Sania decide what she wants and then say she should continue wearing short skimpy dresses . As a muslim I think its inappropriate for her to do so and there is no distinction between personal and professional in religion least of all Islam , a porn star(to take an extreme example) could claim to be religious and still say they are just following their "professional ethics" cos after all its just a job.there is a whole lot of related issues that need to be discussed here but one thing i found really really stupid for the want of a better word was the argument that only short skirts are "comfortable" and wearing anything else would be hindering to athletic speed etc etc .. i wonder of indian or for that matter any cricketer should be made to wear short skimpy skirts on the field which would increase their athletic responses, which seems completeley lacking , i wonder how that would work out .. skirts are not a pre requisite for a good player to win matches , she coul wear a track-suit and play just as well , the skimpy skirts are just to attract audiences, try getting the speech of the WTA president from last year , very enlightening
