I cannot help saying an old story at this moment. Two young sanyasis were to cross a river. Accidentally they saw a beautiful young lady weeping (who does not know swimming) also wanted to cross the river to do some very urgent things. One of the young sanyasis took her on his shoulder and crossed the river. They went their respective ways. After few hours one sanyasi found fault with the other for carrying a young pretty woman on his back. The other one replied.\" I left the lady on the river bank. However, you still carries her!\" The whole issue looks sadly like this.
Is it me or is this an asinine article. Is Shenoy trying to just stir up something that is not there. Clearly Sania loves to play tennis and has a lot of talent and as any competitive sportswoman,- will do everything within her power to be successful at her sport. She's a kid, let her enjoy herself and be successful. She has her parents who can help her deal with issues of religon and politics.
We should only concerned with wishing her well and cheering her on.
well a very balance article which present both the sides of coin , sania cant stop wearing those dresses if she has to play tennis and the maulvi ..it his duty to remind sania that she doesn't expose her body as it is against the religion but maulvi should consider that the gal is bringing glory to nation and she is perhaps the only muslim girl (i knew) in history to reach such high ranking in tennis, so plz give her the freedom to keep doing.

So you know of Indian girl from some other religion reaching as high in Tennis. Buddy what's your problem why do you always have to think religion.
so u just wrote a desperate article cos they aid we really want one column from u this week, is it? dude! whats ur problem, and now i wanna mean, why is it anyone's boheration how sania mirza deals with her faith? everybody has a different meaning and different understanding of faith and a personal spiritual relationship. so hitler was a vegeterian but that din make him the man with greatest morals did it? so point is, pick another topic.
Being a muslim woman myself...i feel that this article is absolutely unwanted...when muslim womem can participate in Beauty pagents..why can\'t they choose to wear what they are comfomrtable in -for SPORTS? Lets not be crappy...but in India, women (any religion) are always judged by others and they have been brought up with what others think about them...and thats why they choose to cover themselves and rather than feeling \"uncomfortable\" being watched/stared/commented/judged.....
Forget what Sania has achieved for India (Apart from that fact), she wouldnt be playing Tennis if she was hesitant about the sports wear. And, please do not pity those Iranian women because they choose to lose rather than wearing tiny skirts...when they can choose to wear swim suits to win a beauty pagent...then why not in Sports? The ones covered from head to toe were scared of results after reaching home (even if they win the match)...they choose to live their lives for others.
Way of living life (by any religion)..the discipline in life..etc were appropriate at those times when it was formed...being stagnant at that era potrays lack of growth.
Mr Shenoy, I believe that religion is something very much personal. Religion can be taught to the young, but when they should be given a choice when they grow up. They should be allowed the freedom to interpret in their own way. I really wonder why others should dictate anyone what he/she should believe in. The fact which is valid since centuries is that extreme financial conditions - the poorest and the richest have always enjoyed the liberty of bending the so-called religious rules to their own comfort and convenience. Its only the indecisive-middle-class who have always created such problems for themsleves.
We are more than 100 crore population country and have one star in Tennis after long gap. I think people should encourge sportsmanship and the achievement she brought in such a short span of time & that will help in getting more stars like Sania. Let them stop worrying about un-wanted things like dress etc.,
Thanks for raising this issue on time. I see two things in this case.
There is no defined dress code for players in tennis. It is the market that presents the feamle players as fashion and style icon and it helps them get sponsors and media coverage.
Ms. Mirja has worked to get this honour but she has to decide at this point whether she has to achieve even higher place in tenis world or to limit herself by thinking futile things. She is not the only player who wears short skirt but it is a fact that it makes her more agile.
Maulvi's reamrk can be discarded bluntly. What was he doing when the lady started playing. These are basic tactics to get recognition easily as media likes to cover such things.
Sania is a star in making and let her concentrate on her game. Media should not cover all this rubbish.
It was a beautifully balanced article, am a devout muslim too and sania's dress code maynot be correct in islamic view but as a muslim i can say that i am DAMN PROUD of SANIA and have become ardent fan of hers and will stand by her in this issue. this is not a big sin like other mortal sins and so it is negligible. may the almighty give her victories in all her matches and make us all PROUD.
