sarabjit or national interest
by pradeep saran on Sep 15, 2005 05:56 PM  Permalink

National interests are supreme but there is a need to react quickly when such issues are raised by the media and strongly put forward the facts so that the masses understand the reality and are not emotionally blackmailed.
No purpose will be solved by wishful thinking and writing after the damage is done.

Sarabjit or national interest
by Apoorva on Sep 15, 2005 05:44 PM  Permalink

Mr Wilson Jones, please be humane. Think of the family who suffers. You are unnecessarily trying to apprehend the Indians by comparing the case of Sarabjit with that of hijacking of Indian Airline flight episode in 1999.Life of each of the Indian is precious. We must try to save Sarabjit.

national intrest
by satyanarayan kanungo on Sep 15, 2005 05:34 PM  Permalink

At any cost the national intrest is to given priority.
So if possible the Govt of India can approach directly
to the Govt of Pakistan. And the caution must be taken that the Pakistan never take the advantage of the situation.

Sarabjit Singh and the peace process
by Vasudevan on Sep 15, 2005 12:16 PM  Permalink

I fully agree with Wilson John that intervening at the PM's level in the Sarabjit Singh would only weaken India's position. I would certainly give the Pakis a handle on us, to use this as a barganing chip to get some more jehadi terrorists freed from Indian prisons.

The pursuit of peace with the Pakis is just an illusion. The only peace that the Pakis will offer India is the peace of the graveyard - when the whole of India would be a grave-yard. Do we need such a peace?

Wilson John is mixing issues
by DSK Rao on Sep 15, 2005 12:12 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am surprised at the way the article has cleverly mixed issues in a cheeky manner. The media hype is not without a valid cause , which is that 'Sarabjit's case is a case of mistaken identity' and he is not what he is being accused as and getting hanged. Does the author expects the Media to keept quiet in a situation like this? The same media, I bet will recommend death penalty to Sarabjit , if he is really a terrorist as being claimed by Pakisthan.

Indian Media/Press is very mature and has never acted against 'National Interests'. It also never learned to get cowed down by threats from vested interests , both from within the country and from without. Everyone remembers the dark days of 'Emergency' and the role played by press/media.

You seem to be really oblivious of the media's role, barring a few like Indian Express, Cho Ramaswamy, etc., during the agency. Study well before declaring anyonbe guilty or innocent. A tall media personality famously quoted-" When asked to bow, the media crawled during the Emergency"

It's a non-sense write up ever did i notice
by Sampurnananda Mahapatra on Sep 15, 2005 11:37 AM  Permalink

Dear Sir,

It's a nonsense column ever did i notice in rediff news. The author perhaps nether haven't gone through the Sarabajit case (how much blind the investigation is), nor doesn't know the meaning of peace and diplomatism. According to him, diplomatic relation can be improved at the cost of an innocent life. Even he doesn't know that value of a single life is more than nation's other interest. Let him first know that Sarabjit has been been framed as a trained spy ( Manjit Singh having 15 years job experience under one Col.), while he was caught by the Pakitani Authorities at his age of 20 only.
Besides, let the author first read some history to understand the meaning of diplomatism as per the view point of US, the big brother in this regard. Let him know that for a single child of Mexico, how the two nations confronted each other on the issue of Citizenship.

Best Regards
Sam
Dhanbad
