Mr. David, I hope you continue to think in the way as you are thinking now. Right now, India is fourth richest country interms of GDP, and it attained this stage with out so called US help (atleast, not completely). Yes, Russians did help Indians, but that is more in scientific and research fields than in other areas. India is definitely going to become Super Power, and you will wonder how it did. This so called US-India relationship is more profitable to US than to India. If you are talking about US companies investing in China and not in India, you have to think twice. Everytime you see a talk between Indo-US cooperation, it is directed towards Military and Scientific cooperation. This is because Indians do know how to attract companies, and this is why you see Indians leading in software segment. Even in India, people don't like to join US side. And Indian Superiority is just going to start now. You see, and watch the world, and notedown the events that are going to take place.
This is an interesting artical. However I would like point that India still needs to a lot in order to achive a repect and power in the world.
All that is being said is good only for economy, but look at the Sarbjit case, what is that indian government would do incase Sarbjit is hanged(murdered) by Pakistan. On the other hand India could not even punish the Russian and UK national even when we had proven evidance of their involvement in Anti India operation.
Take another example, France is giving biscutes of UN seat to sell its submarines and planes. There are several incidnces. Why in first place India needs all the backing, can't it became powerful(economically and militraly) that it can demand a seat in Security counsel?
Respected sir your views seem to be quite good but i guess are very imaginitive. Sir I can't understand few things: will the tie with US be in our interest? Can't we be a superpower on our own like China? We showed our potential to the world when the sanctions were imposed on us after the Nuclear Test. Unless and until we weight and recognise our strength, we won't be a superpower, evenif we are a partner of US.
Mr. Ram Narayan's article makes for interesting reading, although the author seems to have indulged in a bit of "wishful thinking". One can understand the point Ram Narayan is trying to make, in his effort to project US and India as natural allies, vis-a-vis China. I also share his view that the Indo-US alliance will not work if it covers only the military angle, but needs to encompass a much larger area of economic, scientific, technological and other related fields. However, it is unlikely that the politican dispensation in India will able to comprehend the importance of this alliance, and steer the country towards it. We would nned a much better political system in India for such an arrangement to work.
China has grouped up with USA economically for decades even though the two governments are not get along each other. US government was not willing to do this, multinationals from USA have done it. They invested heavily in China and they buy from China. The world economy can keep going at the moment is mainly due to the economical alliance of China and USA. Some people in India think that you can do business with US by pleasing US government or become US walking dog. Wrong, business is business. US is not governed by Mr. Bush or Congress but by multinationals, particular for business issues. Yes, government can intervene (such as sale of oil company) but only in limited and very sensitive areas. Most businesses are carried out by multinationals without interruption. Politically in the same wavelength can help business but main factors to be successful are your own strength in economy, good policy & system, and willingness of your people. Rely on somebody else, you will never stand up as a power by you own. Unless you have independent policy (internal and external) like China, India will never become a real power. This has been proved in Cold War era. Think about it.
