Yes , we need energy for our country and sustaining economic growth. Unfortunately , we are not seeing beyond our nose and nodding our heads to dictates of USA. India has to think of harnessing 1)Solar Energy 2) Hydro Power 3) Bio Energy 4) Wind Power to meet partly it's energy needs. Transmission losses should be minimised by using better transmission systems. High loss transformers and motors should be replaced by low loss equipment on a compulsory basis. Oil & Gas exploration should be given more impetus and wastages plugged.
We should try to get out of our slavish mental frame and start thinking innovatively.

Yes I fully agree with you. India must stop begging west. We must start Joining rivers at the earliest. If we mange to join Rivers as sugested by Our president and the previous governments. We need to beg for help from west.
By joining rivers, 1) India can produce enough electric power to meet all its domestic power demands. even it can export electric energy to neighbours. 2) It can use rivers for transport of goods and passengers thereby oil consumption can be restricted. 3) We can increase food production. Can improve crop management and increase productivity. can syncronise crop patterns in line with demands.
Unfortunately the present government is not doing any thing in this regrds. What it appears by its performance to date, is that it is only selling Intrests to the west. It is not working with vision and foresight.
India can survive and superseed others including the developed west in any field. The present government is very weak in foreighn policy. Its performance to date unsatisfactory in all departments.
Free public transportation

If possible the government should make arrangements for free public transportation (free city bus's). This would encourage people not to use their own vehicles thereby reducing traffic jams on the roads, reducing pollution (air and sound). I remember reading that this sort of an arrangement was very successful in one of the countries which was facing severe traffice problems.
Have first class busses running on the entire length and breadth of the city with high frequency and round the clock service.
While I agree that building a pipeline through the territory of Pakistan is not a viable option & investment, India should seriously think of the alternative options available. It should invest more in identifying the alternative to the oil. The dependency should be reduced to reach the top economy position.
If we continue to import oil in this way, we will continue to be a developing country for atleast another 100 years. Don't we have other resources to think of. Why not improve the public transport system (making use of electricity) and reduce the dependency on petrol and diesel? Can't we generate more power through the available means viz., water, wind, etc.,. Why the wind energy programmes have been put off?
Why still India is facing power problems in many states? Are not these to be looked at seriously?
Let's get together with economic and commercial sense and I am sure once we improve our economic ties with Pakistan - things will change dramatically in our relations.
Why we need to have enmity with each other - other than for political needs - economic sense should prevail!
Open the borders for trade and travel and see the difference!
Well, India should focus all its resources and energy to find more oil & gas reserves within its territory. And that must be done fast & with adroit strategy.
While it is imperative to move forward with the proposed oil pipeline from Iran and Burma, it is high time for India to look into alternative sources of energy like solar, wind, bio-diesel, straight vegetable oil etc. While the government recognises all these alternative methods to produce energy it is not taking any concrete steps towards encouraging the production and use of these other sources.
It will be a disaster if we go ahead with the Iran pipeline deal. You never know if Pakistan is tommorrow is run by militants then India has to pay a heavy price for this. They can blackmail India to do anything for the oil.So Burma pipeline through the 'Golden Route' that is proposed long back to connect India to Asean Tigers will be a better step.India can develop its road link to ASEAN countries and also can use this route to get its oil far from countries like Malaysia too.
