by subash on Sep 02, 2005 09:28 AM  Permalink

We have a Muslim as President of India. We had a dalit Hindu as President previously. We have a Sikh person, a jewel of India as the Prime Minister now.
We have an Italian lady controlling things from behind as the Pseudo Prime Minister.

Can this happen in Pakistan or for the matter anywhere in the world?

Moreover the posting of CJ in Pak is only for 10 days?!

by Dharmendra Goel on Sep 02, 2005 07:22 AM  Permalink

Pkl. Friday , 2nd Sept2005.
Welcome justice Rana to this post as officiating C.J.
at Supremecourtin Islamabad, be it for a short while
the incumbent is out on a visit to Beijing!Someday ,it is likely that he may be offered a permanent position ,there, that would be triumph of multi-culturalism and inter communal underpinnings
in the Sub-continent..After all we had several Chief justices , Presidents , commanders and now a sikh Prime-Minister in India from various minority communities...Pakistan too ,had if am not mistaken once a Jogendranath Mandal i n original Zinnah's first cabinet after Aug. 14'47.More recently we had the privilege on our TV sets seeing Danish Kaneria the spin magician as the lone Hindu in talent rich pacers of
Paki Cricket arsenal,Wecome to this multi-culturalism
in our neighbour's polity.D.Goel

Sensationalism
by Vivek on Sep 02, 2005 04:42 AM  Permalink

I hoped and believed till now that rediff does not stopp to low levels of journalism for a few number of eyeballs. I was proved wrong on this piece. Your heading, though not wrong by itself, is surely misleading and conveniently hides the fact that he has been chosen as an acting judge for a period of 10 days. If this was a news worthy of putting up on your site, at least it could have been done in a more sensible way than this crass example of gimmickry.

by Shirish Paranjape on Sep 02, 2005 03:02 AM  Permalink

It is just wonderful to hear such stories. Such stories will go a long way in getting the neighbours together in a friendly atmosphere.

Have a nice day.

Chief justice
by sasanka on Sep 02, 2005 01:50 AM  Permalink

I do not see any importance in 'Hindu' becoming a chief justice in Pakistan. It is a democracy and may be looking at all the religions in the same way. It is the experience and excellence that is being favored not the religion.
Actually India should learn from this having all the caste politics. So Hindu, donot see this as any greatness to 'you'. Move forward.
