Right of information
by anish on Oct 23, 2005 04:01 AM  Permalink

The law will be like a snake without venom, if there is no provison for the punishment to the officer responsible! If it is the right of people, why there is fees and who will provide the information, the same Babu's who will do their best to discourage people to use their rights!
Apart from that I would like to add one more point. All the world is using a A4 size papers as government and we still use A3/A4 papers in different depts. A small step should be taken to make A4 pages as a official paper size. Hope the power and money hungry politicians of Bharat will take such a small step.

Yet another law
by pankaj on Oct 22, 2005 01:22 PM  Permalink

Just like we have right to file FIR, right to go to to court, right to approach cops etc etc.
What we lack is implementation and not another law.

Right to Information
by B.Z.Elias Frankline on Oct 21, 2005 03:01 PM  Permalink

Giving up Official Secrets Act (1923) is a welcome gesture. Right to Information is mainly introduced to bring good governance, transparency, and accountability. State Information Commissions should expedite the right to information so as to enable every citizen of the country for information. Article 14 of the constitution of india and article 19 of the indian constitution should be kept in mind while furnishing information to the stake holder. Human Rights should be given paramount importance while dealing with this act. Display of citizens charter mitigates the burden of stake holder and brings a thorough comprehension about the existing norms. Therefore every department should take responsibity to cater to the needs of stake holders and should bring dignity to the governance. Hope this act can erradicate corruption by bringing awareness to the citizen.
