It is an excelent analysis of the sitation. I want to add that the congressmen besides transforming their party into nondemocratic relying unduely on this dynasty for leadership to ensure (pseudo)cohesiveness among themselves, have deprived the nation of an opportunity of developing a within party democracy. That is the reason there is no democratic functioning in all our political parties.

Secondly, I want to put a quesion in response to the question asked in the last line.Do we (Indian voters) elect our representative or chose a king/queen for ourselves?

Yes, we actually choose kings/queens. If the king doesn't rule well, we choose another king after 5 years. Meanwhile, the earlier king has 5 years to loot the nation. All our parties know this. The illegal benefits are much more than the ignominy of defeat after 5 years. We cannot do anything but cast one vote to choose the king. Democracy here doen't mean a government for the people. It is only one elected by the people.
It would have been better if we had the rajya sabha like system. Elections should be held every year in different parts of the country. A party should rule as long as they have the majority (simple) in the house. Constant elections will have some pressure on the parties.

Congress' keep
by sick \'n tired on Oct 20, 2005 04:16 AM  Permalink

"We thereby arrive at the mother of questions: are we, who constitute the nation, the Congress's keepers for eternity?"
No, we as a nation are congress's "keep" for eternity.
To ensure this, necessary ammendments have to be made in our history to obstruct any attempt to strengthen the concept of nationality. And anybody suggesting the forbidden word of Nationalism is to be promptly labelled Rabid.
We have the example of Bihar, where Laloo is raping the state for 15 years, while congress is tying the hands of the poor state. All this to keep the "secular forces" out. Or to maintain this profitable dynastic democracy.
What is most amusing is the role of the media.

It is no bloody doubt that Madame Sonia can do whatever she wants to in this country. She could decide that her maid will be the PM and so it will be. This has been the case for the past 50 years and unfortunately, I believe will continue to be so. That is because of the ignorance of the people who still believe in hero worship, especially in the smaller and backward areas of the country, which constitutes the majority of the population in India.

An analysis of the COngress seath share in the past 3 assemblies suggests that they have got most of their votes from the backward areas. Which brings me to my point... The congress (read Nehru Gandhi family) has a vested interest in keeping India backward, as that ensures their staying in power. The lesser educated and developed the people are, the more they will think of these jokers as their "Maai Baap". So you see why in 50 years of independence the country has developed at the snails pace that it has!

I was an idealist a few years back, hoping that India would improve, but now I realise it never will. These morons will continue to rule and keep the country as backward as it is... after all their job depends on it!!

if say it is the backward people that makes the congress win again and again then it is we who are at fault who have the right to choose our representatives but we do not turn out to vote on the voting day. now if we say that the representatives elected by the majority of people participated in the voting think that they are worthy of ruling the country they are free to do so till they are in power. but once they are off the power and the elections are held it should be us telling them that it is not the dynasties that run the country it is WE THE PEOPLE.

fundoos..
by karigar on Oct 19, 2005 10:18 PM  Permalink

It's a matter of convenience which brand of funda-izm the lefties choose to co-ordinate with their own brand (probably communism is as if not more fundamentalistic than any other ism....)The unproven thesis of "hindu-Funda-izm" is the least of their problems.

Good to hear that lefties like the author don't like the uncrowned "prince of dork-ness" , the half-Eyetalian, quarter Iranian (i.e. almost gora??) lording it over the "pro-let-riots..."
