Awsome Article
by Deepak on Oct 20, 2005 12:45 PM  Permalink

Rahul is Mama's Boy. So is Congress, i love anything against congress. The truth is, Indias 35% population is below powerty which can be lured easily, bought and can be emotionally motivated. Congress always portrayed Nehru-Gandhi as Indias parents. They lure 35% below poerty poors with thier coaxed talks and pretent to be thier Messiah. Note that total of turned out overs in india are about 50%-60%, out of that major votes are being praticed by poor people only who votes congress. Maximum literate indians doesnt vote congress at all. High time that we should pull sonia and her puppies down to the ground now

It wont be easy to get out of this mindset. I remember one of the incidents when we were campaigning for assembly elections in East U.P's village. When i asked a young farmer "whom would you like to vote for? " ... he simply said "hum toe indira gandhi ko hi vote denge". This is about 15 years after Ms.Gandhi's demise. Can we change this mindset in the rural India?.

Privately owned political parties
by Ramiah Ariya on Oct 20, 2005 08:59 AM  Permalink

I agree with you entirely.
This situation also arises from a misreading of democratic functioning by most people. Dr.Manmohan Singh argued sometime back that tainted ministers CAN continue to hold power because they were elected by the people. This ignores the fact that political parties are NOT private entities, driven by market forces. Parties are supposed to be owned by the public; we, the people are supposed to have a say not just in elections, but also in nominations WITHIN a party.
The crime was not committed by the people who put the Congress in power; it was committed by the Congress party leadership in 1997, when they offered the leadership of the most powerful party in India to Sonia Gandhi, a political novice. They did this because they thought party leadership could be given by them to anybody, without involving the public in the debate. By offering her the leadership for free, they ignored the interests of India and acted like a privately owned company.
At every level in Indian politics, political parties are owned by private interests and act out of private interests.

After the Brittish raj India is being ruled by this dynasty in the democratic play enacted through the elections in India.Indiragandhi was the Pm who retained power by enacting a law to amend the sacred constitotion. She was the party leader who recomended her father to dismiss the duly elected first communist ministry of kerala. Indira gandhi was the p m who caused to declare emergency to suppress the opponents.
She made laws to stop the prevy purse of the once ruling dynasty.Rajive gandhi was the p m who se response was "when a big tree falls so many small trees will perish when at a time innocent sikhs were butchered through the length and breadth of India.Sonia would have assumed charge after the demise of Rajive gandhi if there was some draw backs.Manmohansingh was nominated by her to allow its natural course forget her foreign origin and Italian connection. There is no one among hundred crore Indians to rise to the occasion and get the support and confidence to rule this great democratic country. It is because no one was allowed to grow under the banian tree and if the tree comedown it remain vacant .The left parties which were organised to oppose the govt.joined for backing

Ashok Mitra's article
by Din on Oct 20, 2005 04:38 AM  Permalink

Mitra is correct in analysing the present situation in India. But who reads Mitra in English. The people who elect the Leaders are donkeys braying for bread and butter. The Leaders who elect the boss are fawning lackeys caring for crumbs of power.
It is all a sham.A party having 145 MPs in the Lok Sabha of 600 members is ruling. But who cares.
Jai hind
