Krishnamurti is a good yogi. The Christians who object to their children being taught yoga (to the extent of physical exercises) are not very wise. Yogic exercises are certainly good for the body, a disciplined body, of which Mr.Krishnamurti is a fine example. I am a christian, have practised different forms of yogas including that of Mr.Krishnamurti. But U cannot attain Atman through physical yoga; first U get your body cleansed, then Ur nerves are cleansed, then your mind is cleansed through pranayama, followed by cleansing the Ego and attain the soul. But,even the air we breath is pulluted! So there is no hope of cleansing your nerves & the mind. A Yogi has no religion, He worships only the Paramatma or Parabrahma. Patanjali concludes his Yogic Sutras by saying,....'by getting rid of "that ego" which identifies one, he attains Purusha. And by the grace of the Supreme Soul also, that is possible.......'
Thanks Rediff. How about a slide show on Iyengar? BKS Iyengar has said in his website:When I practice, I'm a philosopher. When I teach, I'm a scientist. When I demonstrate, I'm an artist. How true! Also, there is a snap of him performing the Padmasana with the Eiffel tower as the backdrop.Mesmerising!Iyengar is widely considered to be the world's greatest living yoga teacher & more than any single person, responsible through his work for the huge popularity of yoga in the West.Time magazine named him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. In the Iyengar school,it is taught that there is a correct way to do each pose & that every student will one day be able to attain perfect poses through consistent practice.Once this balance is created in the body,it'll be reflected in the mind. One of Iyengars major innovations is in the use of props. Today it's quite common to see blankets, blocks, straps, pillows, chairs, and bolsters being used in yoga studios. The use of these props is comparatively new in the history of yoga & comes directly from Iyengar. The purpose of the props is to assist the student in attaining ideal alignment, even if the body is not yet open enough.
