Pakistan says thanks, but no thanks !!
by Espi on Oct 10, 2005 06:40 PM  Permalink

It is entirely in the character of Pakistan to refuse India's offer of relief even when Musharraf appeals to the whole world to come to Pakistan's aid. So also Pakistan's "counter offer" to help India with relief ! Remember a few years ago when a Pakistani child was operated free of cost for a serious heart ailment in Bangalore, and India followed up by offering to do similar free surgery for Pakistani children; the response of Pakistan was to offer similar pediatric surgery facilities for Indian children ! Pakistan has this juvenile tendency to compulsively match India at every turn and every event despite being far more economically and technologically backward. With successive rulers (both civilian and military) having dinned into the heads of ordinary Pakistanis that a single Muslim is the equal of ten Hindus and that their strength lies in their "superior belief systems", Pakistanis find it hard to reconcile this muscular talk with ground realities where they find India forging ahead globally while Pakistan continues to live off doles for services rendered to the US and China.

That officer is propagating hate even in the middle
of a troubled and devastated Pakistan. This kind of responses are childish.

Indian help to Pakistan for relief and rehabilitation
by Ravi K. Dhar on Oct 10, 2005 01:41 PM  Permalink

Adversity sometimes works wonders that normal event-free times dont. The recent earth-shattering calamity that has struck Pakistan and India both, the former in greater measure, has sown seeds of a new rapprochement in the political establishments as well as the people of the two countries. Though the two nations had already been edging closer to each other, this human calamity has rended the hearts of people on either side of the border, particularly the LoC. The Indian PM's offer of help has been a magnanimous gesture. And, if accepted by the Govt of Pakistan, it should cement the ties of a common cultural millieu between the two countries with compassion, that great healing agent to efface all past acrimony, and to set the stage for a new era of understanding and friendliness.
