marriage of minor girls!!
by yamini on Oct 25, 2005 07:44 PM  Permalink

its a completely ridiculous decision!!
at 15 girls are not prepared both mentally n physically to get married.....n the age between 14 - 18 is the age when teenagers are trying to understand the world!!....at this stage thr r all chances of them influenced by wrong ppl n take wrong decisions!!
moreover if u r makin it legal to get married at 15 ..thn it implies that a girl can bear children also at this age..!!..dis is very dangerous 4 girls reproductive health!!..it will result in increase in infant mortality rate!!
once again i wuld lik 2 say tat its a insensible decision!!..n there is absolutely no logic behind this

Can minor girls marry

Absolutely ridiculous. Anti-human, unsensible and how can you allow a marriage. Marriage is basically a contract. Any person below 18 - who is legally a minor cannot enter into contract - how long a marriage at 15 legally binding. rethink and reconsider the decision.

Can minor girls marry?
by vimalabai,chicago on Oct 10, 2005 08:20 PM  Permalink

No, Never Let it prevail again in India. It was long standing practice in olden days in India. It was put to an end recently not completely by framing laws with the help of great social reformers. This is a turning point since the court has ordered that in certain circumstances girls of 15 can marry. The govt.if there is vision and foresight civil law should be made applicable to all citizens of India irrespective of cast, creed or religion if the constituion makers dream come true and meaning in Independent Sovereign secular democratic India where there is no descrimination.

Law should be uniform for every state
by Archana on Oct 09, 2005 05:39 PM  Permalink

"not illegal provided it is of her own free will"....Most of us know that we are deprived of our own free will when it comes to marriage...All the rights go into parents' hands...It will be a weak order if at all it will be implemented properly....
Well I think this kinds of law and all the laws which directly or indirectly connect to it or create an ambiguous picture of any order should have uniformity in every state....

The problem of early marriages arises when the parents are uneducated and poor....so government should work at the root level first...

The other point which I think is that the age of marrying for a boy and girl should be equal....Why does't anyone object to the current law?
Make it 21 or something for both boys and girls....What is the funda of 18 for girls and 21 for boys?? What extra knowledge or insight a boy gets in those extra 3 years ?

There is a clear contradiction in the law.Once again a sign that some laws have not developed properly and are biased.A 15yr old generally will not know the right thing to do, and their decision should not be taken as valid in these critical matters. It's a question of social development and human lives.A pregnancy at that stage also leads to hindrance of the minor's progress, let alone national progress. It's a statutory rape, and the Delhi High court is clearly making a fool of itself in the eyes of humane community. I'm sorry to say that once again we have a situation where the weak, in this case the young minor girls are taken advantage of by people that are dutybound to protect and guide them to more ambitious aims leading to more productive life.We need progressive people, not destructive ones that keep plucking fruits before true maturity is onset. We need to elliminate people who find excuses to wantonly exploit citizens and who use the law to selfish ends.India is in critical & trying times and we need current, responsible laws with tough enforcement. No excuses required.
