Chennai's Culture
by Raghupathy on Oct 03, 2005 04:52 PM  Permalink

The author has ridiculed the basic values of life. I have seen lovers elop openly in parks in of one of the State Capitals of Western India(the state is said to be Hindu dominated). Does the author mean he accepts such practices? Should we not give any respect to our ancient ethics and culture - Is that what the author means? Except for the Scene 5 - where the privacy of a married couple is disturbed - other 4 scenes are objectionable to Indian society. India is famous for its cultural heritage and family unity. Does the author wants to disturb our culture and heritage. Already due to western TV channels which show us some below quality fare through movies & serials which are disturbing the minds of todays young generation due to which we see several cases of several young boys - even below 15 - raping their opposite - without even knowing the repercussions of doing such act. Does the author want such incidents to increase? Let rediff not support such articles in future.

How dare you kiss in Chennai
by Siddharth on Oct 03, 2005 04:52 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This lady Shobha Warriar was probably born in the U.S.
Yes Iam a Chennaite and very proud to be one. Look at Delhi where females like you have all the freedom in the world , it has the highest rape cases in the country among the metros. Maybe you can try to make your Kerela like the way you want it and stop ridiculing Chennai. I think the cops are doing a good job. Why do we Indians blindly ape western culture?
This Warriar lady should Zimbly zip it.

Facts have been distorted. Too much of imagination / exaggeration. This is poor journalism. I am ashamed that such authors are still in circulation.

This is the height of stupidity!!! How can people in this world have such centuries old mentality??
India is progressing and the people still want to stick to the age old crap!! Whose are these to preach us what to do and what not to do?? Haven't they ever kissed their partners? Dont these people have sex? Ask them the same question...do they have sex only on Fridays??
People in Chennai need to open up!! Broaden your mentality and attitude!!

Good Imagination
by Robert on Oct 03, 2005 04:50 PM  Permalink

Moral policing is not just in chennai, its happening all over india, remember the bar girls ???.

The author i assume does not have any idea on what frequently happened around 7.00pm-10p.m slot at marina beach. You would find free Adult cinema if you ever happened to go at that hour, due to moral polcing (which does have its own negatives) this shameful incident has comedown drastically.

I repeat its not just happening in chennai its happening all over india.

Do you think Kissing, showing your love in public is widely accepted in India??....Come on giveme a break!!!

And stop moaning about chennai.
