Let us not mistake freedom to be licentiousness
by Rajagopalan on Oct 03, 2005 04:59 PM  Permalink

The author seems to put her case beautifully as if whatever is done by the Big Brother or the college staff is wrong.

I believe she cannot understand the practical problems raising out of such behaviour in public, whose results we experience now in Delhi (including DPS) and Mumbai.

It is our culture to dress and behave decently in public (even if it is with your spouse). That is the tradition/culture of India.

I totally disagree with these scenes
by Baskaran on Oct 03, 2005 04:59 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

To author,

this is not so..
let us not talk bad about these activities of the police.

The westernization of the Indian Culture is going at such a dangerous phase, that it needs lots of filter in it. We need to allow only those western practices that would be good for our people.

The author's dream of Thursday (scene: 5 ) is too much...
While scene 3 happens in many of the colleges,,,,I support the author.

For Scene1& 2: Tell me.. What is the need to do such things in public places..justify yourself?
For Scene 4 : The actress delivered her idea in an amateur way. She is paying price for it.

These things need to be checked.

tell me the reason for the following facts
1. very less no of eve teasing cases than any other Metros in India
2. very less no of rape incidents than any other Metros in India
3. very less no of unlawful activities than any other Metros in India

if you find the reason for these activities you can surely understand the Big Brother's attitude.
Than any other metros in India, the Police in Chennai has good respect from people. In fact the people fear for them.

Don't do such canvassing any more
Think as responsible elderly citizen

What a pity!! We are in a democratic (atleast in paper) country. People do not have to fear cops!! Instead of protecting people, the cops are blood sucking(read corrupt), useless lot in India(just like in movies, they reach at the crime scene after the crime has occured).
They hold too much power: can torture people at will. Are we in Hitlers's Germany?
As Indians our only 'high impact' contribution is from C V Raman. Except for that we are always number 1 for wrong things (AIDS, poverty, TB, corruption, bad roads, dishonesty the list is vitually endless).

Instead of seizing the economic opportunities Indians want to save their "culture". What culture are we talking here:Worshiping cows? Denying people who wants to eat beef? Working in a govt. job with almost no productivity? Greasing the palms of every official? Producing thousands degree holders with rigid, outdated education system? Sitting on the banks of Ganges?

India is backward because of its people, not the government!!!

this is too much
by arumugham on Oct 03, 2005 04:58 PM  Permalink

hi all,

once you start imposing restrictions the young are complelled to find new ways to be as they want to be. this does not mean that they should be let loose, it is bounden duty of the parents, teachers, and the community to make them realize what is culture, friendship, love etc and be a trendsetter. it is not only the dress or the physical nearness that matters it is really the dirty mind that brings havoc. politicians ride on these issues for their advantage and publicity. let all of us help these young brains to pluck that dirty little part in their mind and everything will be OK.

Hope the right thinkers will agree with me.

Arumugham.

How dare you kiss in Chennai
by G Balu on Oct 03, 2005 04:58 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Very good article and eye opener for Chennaites.

Even though the city is Metro in nature their thinking is narrow minded. The attitude is so bad -which is the basic reason -- inspite of all intellectuals -- the city has not moved forward that is or was expected, of Chennai.

You cannot blame the citizens. It is the fault of the parties which govern the State.

ETHO RAJA THATA PRAJA - the citizesns just follow what the rulers do.

It is high time the attitude of the politicians who rule or govern the State of Tamilnadu and in Chennai particular change - otherwise things are bound to become worst from worse..........

Already the citizens are starved of water, whereas all other major ciites have received very good rains. Several good televison channels are not part of their cable system, which other parts of Tamilnadu and other cities enjoy. The system of auto, overcrowded buses, type of weather(hot, hotter, hotest) the list can go on and on ...........

The above is not to hurt the sentiments of citiziens of chennai but the reality of the facts.

G Balu

by chocochipp on Oct 03, 2005 04:58 PM  Permalink

The man is an attention crazy !

Its a reflection of a section of men in the south who desperately wanna take us back to the stone age to combat the inferiority complex they suffer now when compared to us women.

The subservient woman is their fantasy come true and its probably true of our Whacko Commissioner too!

Obviously nothin go on in the confines of his 4 walls?!

Maybe that explains everythin!
