REPLY : Column: How dare you kiss in Chennai?
by linux4john on Oct 03, 2005 05:12 PM  Permalink

I would like to bring to the author\\\'s notice that not only chennai but most of the cities in india have similar incidents like these. for example in bangalore kannada activists are going behind all MNC\\\'s for preference over recruitment, who are just a small (10 to 15 members) group of protestors, bringing disgrace to india. much more seriously, in bangalore no one is able to buy a home or site or build a home outside the BDA limits in bangalore from april 2005 to tilldate. it seems that there is no direction from BDA,CMC, corporation, BMP, councils, or government of karnatka. i would like to congratulate the author for writing a wonderful article and bring out the major problems of citizens facing in each city in INDIA. this may not be the step to degrade Indian culture but to prevent such degradable activities in future.

with regards

john

This is Atrocious
by ramkumar on Oct 03, 2005 05:12 PM  Permalink

This is too bad to our city. We have to stop it. We the people of chennai have to join hands and oppose it.We cant keep quiet. We have all the right to show our affection towards the person we love.

Please guys and girls we have to oppose the curbing of our freedom.

We should request our chief minister who is a broad minded person to help us in this and make our city a modern city.

Frustrating
by SR on Oct 03, 2005 05:09 PM  Permalink

How the hell these moral big brothers think they can impose something on us! Is there any forum we can go to? does court recognise this harrasment? how many of us feel this is unjustified but stand back bcoz they don't know to do about it...
Let us see if rediff has posted this story just to get mouseclicks or the editors really believe in freedom from such moral policing.
I request rediff to start an online petition against this kind of high-handedness and i promise i will ask my friends to log in and sign this. if thousands of us sign it, we would have a strong case.
if we are bothered about something, lets stand up and do something about it.. rather than just complaining about it....
I hope my trust in Rediff.com is not belied.
Regards,
SR

NOT AT ALL BAD
by Pavan Krishna Kishore on Oct 03, 2005 05:07 PM  Permalink

I should rather appreciate this columnist for highlighting the typical South Indian concern for culture rather than unnecessry freedom. People have many places for doing such things, specified by the columnist, and probably that is the way they prevent a DPS MMS happening or Bombay dance bar form their city. You see the alarmingly increasing rate of rapists in Delhi. May be the Big Brothers strategy is prevention is better than cure.

How dar you kiss in chennai?
by Mahesh Sharma.G on Oct 03, 2005 05:06 PM  Permalink

Dear Sir/Madam,

I read your article. It was very good. Infact I have to give you a big applause for categorising into different scenes. Your attack was too good on Big Brother who actually spoils the good skin show.

I fully endorse your view. By the by do you have any daughter/sister? If so please send her profile. I would like to teach a lesson for Big brother who in the first scene terrfies the young boy. I will try to implement and dare to give a bold answer to the Big brother.

I am eagerly awaiting for your daughter's/sister's profile.

HIP HIP HURRAY!!!

Chennai - shoots its own foot and complains it's unable to walk!!
by Avinash Ramchander on Oct 03, 2005 05:03 PM  Permalink

Appropos to the article 'How dare you kiss in Chennai?', I totally agree with the views of the writer.

I am 25, and have lived in Chennai all my life, with a 2 year stint in Manipal to do my PG. If you were to ask me to describe this city in 2 words, I would say 'Backwardly Modern'! For any open-minded and accepting person, life in Chennai is one big vicious cycle. No other city has as much of an apparent disconnection between 2 classes, rich and poor. Add to that, the hypocrisy is insurmountable.Live and let live is hardly a phrase that people have heard of. This is a city that is till stuck in the past. No doubt it has an awe-inspiring culture and a varied heritage. But how can a city embrace the future by still clinging on to the past. People should realise that times are changing, values are changing, people are changing. Young people in Chennai are more independent, experimental and outgoing, but that doesn't mean they are irresponsible! Once people realise that, there won't be instances of 'big brother' watching and 'catching'! Why should sex be a taboo anymore, especially when everybody indulges in it? Or atleast thinks about it! Is this true freedom? I don't think so!
