The Great People of Chennai
by Raj on Mar 16, 2006 07:30 PM  Permalink

Forget public display of affection in Chennai. Even in the US where I live, Men from Chennai stick only with men from Chennai. Couples are rarely ever seen except in grocerry stores. I fail to understand their conservatism. Whats up with you guys? Can you please shrug off your holier than thou attitudes and be a little fun.

a part of it is right
by dilip acharya on Mar 16, 2006 06:15 PM  Permalink

I didn\'t see any big bro who stopped me from dancing on a dance floor or disturbing a romantic couple.
But there are colleges that strongly discourage talk between boys and girls. May be because they don\'t want any romance on campus. But it when 18 that you want to hold hands and go for a walk with your girl friend and not when you are 80. Romance is a part of life. Colleges should not encourage it. But they should not poke their noses in the privacy of students as long as they are fulfilling their duties responsibly.

Article is largely generalised with much little truth
by jagdish on Mar 16, 2006 05:06 PM  Permalink

Goin thro the article , i find that either the author has never been to chennai or he is strongly anti chennai.

Chennai is really a very good place of mixed traditions.
You can find all types of people here - conservationists, diplomats, philonthropists, the modern and westernised youngsters.

I have seen young people kissing and huddling eachother in parks and chennai , much in the presence of your called BIgBrother.
I Don't think your Bigbrothers force entry into a private dance bar , and advise on Bharatanatyam.

Public display of sex is prohibited in any place in India, and chennai is no exception to it.
It seems that your pro Hindu activists are actually keeping their hands tied in other metros.Rubbish!

I am not denying the fact that 'BigBrothers'
involve in intimidation of lovers, but i want to say that it does not always happen, and it does not happen only in Chennai.

However I feel sorry for the treatment let out to that actress but that would have happenned anywhere in India also - for such foolish minds exist all over india.

Regarding your scene five , i feel that was the worst creativeness you could have thought of .

A different Culture!!
by Prasanna on Mar 16, 2006 04:49 PM  Permalink

I dont think this should be a problem. We atleast see tamil community following the true indian culture. This Culture exist wherever u find a tamil community..tamilnadu, srilanka, malaysia..etc.... This is been like this for over 2000 years.
People who said wrong i think are all youngsters. They will know the pain if their school going son kisses his girlfriend in front of them publicly. Kissing in a public place will send wrong signals to the kids passing there. They will think it's nothing wrong!. Our indian cluture was like this before and the west were really impressed. Now, it is getting slowly corrupted and people are misusing words like..globalisation, IT hub, educated soceity in this context. Having 100 IT companies does not mean we should allign our cluture to the west. Lets build a better cultured nation around our culture. Can u find a cluture like this in any part of the world?..that's our advantage.

if we dont address this problem now, then in another 10 years you will see a 10 year child going to bar and coming home after 2 days. If asked he will shoot his parents...
Lucky! the authour had not given his/her contact or email address!!!!

about the suibject
by barnali on Mar 16, 2006 03:57 PM  Permalink

we understand that women are not safe in metro cities but then what the big brother is adopting is ttotally wrong becoz once the teens starts rebelling then all will have hectic time and the woman should understand what to demonstrate for instead they should have checked their drunken hubbies.
