Feelings, adjectives, boasts are not stuff of science. Either way, statistical analysis is the only concrete method to scientifically evaluate any theory.
Homoepathy, and its practitioners hide behind the convenient veil of the fact that no two patients are adminstered the same combination of "medicinal" compounsa and "mixtures", thereby making it impossible to gauge the effect on a large cross section of population! Despite shrill words and shouting from rooftops about its efficacy, not one practitioner of homeopathy has been able to provide scientific evidence based on systematic study about it's efficacy. Not one in 250 years!

Homeopathy is Indeed Marvellous
by Sumit Kumar Bose on Oct 03, 2005 02:17 PM  Permalink

I completely agree with Dr. Prafull Vijayakar. I have been suffering from Mild asthma and allergic rhinitis for more than 27 years now. After trying out both allopathy and homeopathy for years, I would say that homeopathy works wonders in chronic ailments!!I have no hesitation in saying that this has nothing to do with placebo effect. You have to be patient and be under the treatment of a good homeopath to see the beautiful effects of homeopathy. Both homeopathy and allopathy have strengths and weaknesses. We must explore the complimentary strengths of the two without trying to prove one to be superior over another. Under influence of modern medicine, homeopathy is dying. Save homeopathy from dying so that people like me can witness the beautiful effects of it in future generations. It is human folly to damn subjects about which one has little knowledge of. It is like a perennial problem of behavioral scientists damning mathematicicans and vice versa. By not appreciating others people only make fool of themselves. God save such foolish people.

Crystal structure of water
by S S Maitra on Oct 03, 2005 02:08 PM  Permalink

Dear Sir ,
There is a school of thought that homeopathy drugs
work by altering the crystal structure of water.
I am not sure whether this is true or not . If it is
true then homeopathy has sound a scientific basis,
as 70% of human body is nothing but water .

Why dont you do an RCT instead of fighting it out like this
by Roy on Oct 03, 2005 02:03 PM  Permalink

Dear Sir, I have read your article and I just wanted to point out to you a few things. No system should be allowed to rule over another one. If you are very sure you have a cure for many diseases why dont you do an RCT here VS Alloapthy.
The second thing I want to ask you is what have you got to comment about the usage of heavy metals in some of the medicines in homeopathy like arsenic. All the claims of detoxification are they really right.
The third thing is do you have a homeopathic medicine for fever, because many homeopaths are prescribing powdered paracetamol as homeopathy medicine.
The fourth thing the place where i come from had a recent dengue epidemic, we had many patients who have taken medicines to prevent dengue fever , still they got the illness. So is it right on the part of many to claim there is a prevention for Dengue. This had actually diluted the govts stand of anti mosquito measures.
AND the last if there is a cure for the illnesses , please then do RCT's and pulish them in modern medicine journals so that all can learn and refer the correct cases to homeopathy.
I have lot of respect for your views which made me write this. Hope to see you answer my query

Homoeopathy .
by PKP on Oct 03, 2005 01:53 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Please do a favour to your readers and avoid publishing such meaningless articles. Is the author trying to say something about medicine trials, or is he talking about democracy? Let him make up his mind first. Being a president of Homoepath's association doesn't entitle him to have any special privileges as far as scientific truths go.

Most of the countries have lost interest in homoeopathy simply because there is little provable medicinal value in it. It survives in India because Indian society possibly because some influential politician in the post independence period took a kind view of it. Hundreds of bright students continue to suffer as a result. Hundreds others take this 'back door' route to practising allopathy medicine.

Forget all other issues, let the author prove that any two homoeopathy medicines of 30C power are different from each other..... That will be a good first exercise.

In defence of homoeopathy
by Prasanna on Oct 03, 2005 01:53 PM  Permalink

I fully agree with Dr. Prafull Vijaykar.

Our family is a strong supporter of Homoeopathy. It has given us excellent results, which even Alopathy could not.

Western countries have a habit of stressing invalid points, jus because they have lot of money and time to spend.

My regards to all those who are working in R & D in homoeopathy for better medicines and I will continue to support homoeopathy.

Thanks,

''Denial'' response- not very useful
by Anant on Oct 03, 2005 01:51 PM  Permalink

This is a classical "denial" response to an objective assessment. If the author is so confident about homodopathy, he should conduct an objective scientific experiment, obtain positive results, get them peer reviewed and published. Only that can counter this finding about homoeopathy. Lamenting about loss of Sanskrit and talking of multi-year study course is not relevant.

In defence of Homoeopathy
by Ranjeeet on Oct 03, 2005 01:44 PM  Permalink

I feel that all these studies are usually sponsored by some intrest groups and the final outcomes are generally orchestrated. Those who conduct these studies should also give in detail the methodologies and their experience in conducting such studies...etc. I personally feel that Homoeopathy is such a beautiful science that some of my own family members have been cured permenantly of ailments like allergies due to dust, asthama...etc. I also know of a doctor friend who challanged with me and reduced a very high fever in matter of 1 hr which is really wonderful and I am sure this is also the case with any of standard allopathic drug like paracetomol..etc. So people should look at each and every science as a tool to take what is good and junk the rest.

Homeopathy the ultimate science
by Manoj Patwardhan on Oct 03, 2005 01:09 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Many of us might not be aware that homeopathy itself has evolved as an ultimate answer to the unending side effects of allopathy. Dr. Samuel Hannemann was the genius who saw the shortcomings of allopathy and hence arrived at the principle "Similia Similibus Curanter" i.e. "like cures like". I hope a doctor should test the homeopathic medicines on oneself before arriving at any conclusion and then only offer a public comment. It may very well happen in future that he might need some homeopathic remedy for his ailment which is non curable by allopathy.
