Very correct. No country is a perfect suitor. But USA is the most appropriate in the medium term.In the long term India must aspire to become a global power with its own standing among nations.
China and India are what I term "Erb feinde" "Eternal Enemies" who will sooner or later fight to the death. We can never be friends until Chinese drop Maoism, Withdraw from Tibet,Burma, Nepal and Xinjiang and under go 50% de-militarization. In the Asian continent we will have to come to terms with China sooner or later. It is either US or them. If it ends up being them, then Asia will sink into the Abyss of a new dark age where genocide and repression will become state policy. If we can stand up to them and see their demise then all of Asia will move into vast sunlit uplands.
Your article is very direct and convincing. But wonder to what extent your articles and the like make any difference. Do not get me wrong? I read your articles regularly and admire/agree most of them. But is it just few NRI's views captured in the some tiny corner of the space of Internet?
I guess this view comes out of agreeing with your views and seeing the reality on the ground that contrasts so much with our expectations.
Are NRIs like us left to air our views, go back to job in India get-togethers rant on and cuss at China/Pakistan?!! Isn't there something more substantial, more concrete that can be done by some many that become aware of these geo-political issues and the consequences for India!!!
I would like to see an article from you with your ideas and more importantly what ideas your readers would come up with. As far as I am concerned, I do not have an inkling.

Uhh, in your own feedback comment you could have yourself mentioned what those points are. Uhh, unless you just don't know them yourself...
***China says impossible to beat U.S. or Russia medal haul- BEIJING (Reuters) - China, hosts of the next Summer Olympics, said on Thursday it would be impossible to overtake the medal hauls of the United States and Russia, not just in 2008 but for the foreseeable future.Cui Dalin, China's deputy sports minister, played down prospects of a huge medals haul for the hosts at a news conference on the eve of celebrations to mark 1,000 days until the opening of the Beijing Olympics. "Not only in 2008 but beyond, it's impossible to overtake the U.S. and Russian teams," he said. He pointed out that though China had collected its best ever tally of 63 medals last year in Athens, the U.S. had won 103.Cui said though China won 32 gold medals to Russia's 29, the Russians had collected 92 medals overall and were still a stronger team. Cui said he placed China on the same level as the second tier of sporting nations made up of Australia, Japan, Germany and France. ***** Imagine if this were India getting 63 medal, there would have been a big din around a "sports superpower" tag. Myopic m0r0ns like Rajeev Srinivasan and the supportive sycophantic mediaare the realhindrance to India's progress
You deserve the credit for writing a remarkably detailed and objective article. When I think of India, I realize that the following things 'contain' India from within. 1. The BIMARU states-most strikingly UP and Bihar. 2. Corruption 3. Lack of reliable law enforcing agencies. 4. Appeasement policies of the political parties 5. A large fraction of the the Indian politicians. We may argue that some of these have been instigated by external forces but we cant simply hold them responsible for everything. So the best bet for India would be to try and fix these issues and maintaining friendly relations and a safe distance from both of these 'big two'.
This was an absolutely wonderful article on the essential clash of interests between India and China on just about every issue. And it doesn't help that China has been very unethical, regimented, single minded, obsessive and collectivist, whereas India is practically the opposite. Incidentally, China blocking India's entry into the UN security council hasn't inspired a tiny fraction as much commentary as India's vote against Iran recently. What gives? Isn't India more important to Indians thsn Iran?
Hello writer, If US, Japan, and other western countries spoiling the party of other nations means it doesn't mean that India has to do the same...They have done their dities in home and their people are leading good life in their land and even wherever they go. India is super duper power means the people are living in satisfactory state.... You guys need some therapy.....
most of your points are valid, but mind well, ammericans can be friendly, but they can never be friends.can you mention any of the ammerican presidents who have done any favour to india?
