If there is a kid, he/she should get maintainence from one or both parents (who ever is earning). But why should one give support to the other, if the other is not having a problem in making a living. After all, if they decide to separate, they should take care of themselves, whether it is man or woman!!!. I think it should be considered if its that only one person wants separation!
WE have to get out of the patriarchal mode that women have to be supported by men. Frankly even doctor womens are getting Alimony , so are software women asking for alimony . Very rarely are men getting alimony. My opinion that either both men and women should not get alimony While Women are misusing the Section 498a and dowry laws and have currently acting like an economic parasite in most of the cases For change it is refreshing to see a man able to get some money out of the tight fisted females
When we will stop this? The partition is getting grave everyday between the two sexes. In name equality some women have made the society as hell, marriages the institution of society are converting to divorces and single parenting at speed of naughts. Courts are bombared with matrimonial cases and trying their best to bring justice in the given scenarios. But society has bigger role to play to avoid these situations to arise. I feel to bring more equality the concept of maintenace and alimony to be abolished along with highly biased laws like 498A. These laws are creating families to break with less than 2% conviction and usually ending up in husband's family to pay huge amounts to settle the cases.
In this modern age we all want equality, so forth the law. The law must be equal irrespective of genders. Also the concept of alimony or maintenance should be abolished in an era of pre and post marital sex. Why is media so partial about genders, if there is a dowry victim always media shows as if it is real though it is a false case. Why not some good news media concentrate on false 498a cases. Are they afraid women NGOs sue them ? Why are we not fair ? If the partiality in law continues, one day will bite every one.
Male and Female r equal in this world. On this basis the females education is excellent, justification is needed and the laws of the court/Judiciary should be changed for equal rights in male and female, its not the old tradion of the manu laws.
To my conscious, I am supportable of recent statement of Allahabad court declaration. Yes the males and females r in jobs, todays world, so why not if wife wants to give the divorce to husband, ok if the husband is in poor condition this is in salary so why not the husband can claim his rights as the wife claims.
Here I am in working in western country with western people, equal rights for them and they r care not also. When Our country India is turning to western heritage especially females, going to pubs, week ends, modern dress, and culture, so why not the husband claim his rights from modern females/wifes.
There fore the judiciary, his excellency the Judges should to the developed and the right system, not to the manu laws. FOLLOW THE SANATANA DHARMA FOR WIFES AND HUSBANDS, NO GOSSIPING FROM XY/XX.

I think the western country where you are currently working is not an English speaking area:)
Do you really think all problems are caused by women going to pubs? Why dont you have any issues with men who do that? And the equality which you are talking about exists only on paper. Our society is nowhere near ture equality, in fact I dont think any society is. Take a look at any marriage and you can see this gross inequality. A man can never accept a wife who is intellectually more capable than him. Even if a husband manages to 'tolerate' such a wife, he never helps her become better. There could be exceptions though, but very hard to find.
I too support the verdict, but I found your reasons silly, so just replying to provoke thought. You have a long way to go, hope you reach there soon.!
I fail to understand what so sensational or newsworthy in the Allahabad High Court judgment that Rediff has to write an article on it. This has been the settled law in India for nearly the past 50 years, i.e., since 1956!!
