Does the Gender equality limited to this much. Today also women are not using their fathers last name after their marriage. They use their husbands name for that matter. If a female decide to use her fathers name and surname after marriage, many educated people raise their eyebrows. This need to be changed. This society is male dominating and lots of things need to be done to change it.
Women wear some symbol on their body to show that they are marrie. Men say that this it their tradition. But it is not. It is because of male dominating society. Women fast for her husband but reverse is not usually seen in this society. So many thing are there which need to be changed.
Actually men do not want equality but want to treat female as their servent. Just one decision will not change this picture. A brainwashing of all men is required and that will solve all the problems.
I don't consider this as an issue to be discussed nationwide as there is nothing wrong for this woman to pay her husband. Afterall she had all kinds of pleasure from her hubby when being together and when he was working. She cannot repay that luxury to him anymore, but atleast she can give respect to what she had by apying whatever is ordered.
Not only this case. If an husband is asked to pay mainteance to a non-working spouse in case of a divorce petion pending in court, proper check should be made to decide on the amount and a check on for what purpose the spouse uses the money. I have seen non working spouses getting maintenance and running business which is stupid.

I wont support maintenance for husband as this is a good way to exploit educated and working women. First men exploited non-working and uneducated women and now they will get another way.
"Who cares", "what the hell","I am informaing you not seeking your approval", "I want to be happy and just me" these are some famous statements of today's wifes. So let the law be same for both ... a perfect judgement at the right time.
Better late than never. It is indeed a welcome ruling. Time has come when both the genders shall be treated equal on all fronts. It is only after both are treated equal, they will respect each other and lot of social problems like divorce, sharing of parental property, dowry deaths & treating the women as weaker sex can be tackled.
Are men so weak that they cant support themselves financially and have to depend on their wives after seperation. If you dont want to live with a women dont accept her money. I know many people will say why cant women think like this? If we start acting like them then whats the difference between both of us. For the fear of men applying for divorce and women paying money, might just reduce adam teasing (read it as a corollary to eve teasing)
Yes, in this modern society very one are equal, especially both wife and husband are equal. In the past also wifes were learned vedas, sastras. so from the past both wife and husband are equal.
