Abu Salem and Capital punishment.....
by vikram chauhan on Nov 13, 2005 12:23 PM  Permalink

My firm opinion is that Indian Govt. should go by its promise which it has given to Portugal Govt. not to give capital Punishment to Abu Salem & Monica Bedi. Otherwise in future no country will have faith in us and it will have far reaching ripple effects while controling international terrorist activities.

I think more than "GALLOWS" which causes immidiate death to the culprit the sustained slow torture is more effective way to control such activities. Such a person should be publically be humilated & such anti national should be taken to Court rooms every now and day . He should be highlighted by the media also in negative terms so that it gives a message to other terrorists waiting in the wings to hold on and rethink about their future once if caught.

After all what picture our International society needs is that India is not a soft state and It honors the commitments made at International level apart from the fact that India can handle terror and related activities with firm hand.

I think every terrorist will opt for "PHANSI KA FANDA" instead of daily public humilation . In other words if we hang him/her it will be sort of fullfilling his wishes & which shud b avoided

It's safe for Abu Salem
by Mahendra Prasad on Nov 13, 2005 12:02 PM  Permalink

It's no doubt that, the crime committed by Abu Salems warrants to Capital punishment which he deserves. But rules are also made to follow. They have to follow the undertaking given to the Portugal aswell. Now to put him to gallows if proved guilty, the permission has to be obtained from Portugal and the action has to be started now itself and when proved guilty in the Hon'ble court of law, there are chances we may get the premission from Portugal and he can be sent to gallows.

Abu Salem death penalty
by som shekar on Nov 13, 2005 11:59 AM  Permalink

The fact that abu salem is in the custody of our law is itself the commendable point. If there was no other way of getting him from the portugese other than succumbing to their demand for no death penality, then it is no big issue. He will definitely be put out of criminal acts with a 25 year sentence. We should only be alert and monitor as to how effectively our law departments will curb his reach from within his sentenced confines.

Our govt should stick to its word of no death penality or otherwise Bharath would be as low as this NA LAYAK BULLY who is finally behind our bars.
