Indian Government can not give Death Penalty since Portugal and EU will keep a keen eye on the case of Abu. Life in prison will be the maximum penalty.
I dont think its the right time to discuss the issue whether Abu salem should be given death penalty or not?
It appears As if he has been proven guilty and only thing to be decided is his punishment, which actually is not. Death penalty is not the only punishment in the land of law and a criminal can be given any punishment and the death penalty is one such.Its is rarity in India and If we talk about court procedure it takes years before the execution of sentence. We can very well recall that even dreaded terrorist like Maulana Masood Azher was not given death penalty by Indian court(actually case was in court,If I am not wrong).
In this case immediate priority was to bring Salem to india so he could be tried and CBI and Govt has done wonderful job in this. Once his trial is over and if he is convicted with the death penalty I am sure this issue can be dealt by Indian govt with Portugese Govt. Discussing death penalty for Abu Salem, right now, is kind of affecting the judicial process.
I don't think it was right on the Indian Govt.'s part to give a written commitment. Hundreds of people have died because of this man, ofcourse he deserves capital punishment. I don't understand why Portugal doesn't want him to get Capital punishment.
All that said, just plain ol' death is no good for this guy. I think, he should be locked in a smalll cramped room with no ventilation and no lights, 1 bad meal a day for the rest of his life. That, will be a punishment for him.
Abu Salem should be set free to contest elections from Mumbai where 40 lakh muslim brothers will vote for him. Islam is a religion of peace, tolerance & brotherhood. It is against all forms of violence. Abu Salem is a good muslim, and acting as per Shariat, therefore as per our Secular ethos, he should be treated well. This is a case of a poor, unemployed Muslim youth taking to crime, because he had no options. If at all he did anything wrong, he was misguided.In fact, Govt of India needs to urgently implement 50% reservations for Muslims including in the army & private sector. As far as the 1993 Bombay bomb blasts, it is a conspiracy by RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal to defame Muslims in India.
The 300 people (all Hindus) who got killed, were RSS activists and suicide bombers. Abu Salem should be released with a Govt apology, so that he can promote more people to people contact with our brothers in Pakistan, like Dawood Ibrahim, Maulana Masood Azhar etc. The BJP is a useless party with no issue, that is why they are raising this issue, we can safely dismiss them, release Abu Salem immediately, to strehgthen the hands of our fearless leaders Manmohan Singh, Shivraj Patil and Soniaji
i guess death penalty is the right treatment for this person who has organised the most horrendous attacks on indian soil. since india is also bound by the precondition they have imposed on themselves in lieu of this extradition but think of all those people who have been ruined by this attack and still hoping for the justice although it would not help them except for mental peace but this would send strong message to underworld that india would not get nailed down by these foolish laws set be the whites
i was at vt during the stock exch blast the scene was horific instead of death give him sentence of 1 bullet in each kneecap and elbow then in 3 hrs 1 bullet in the stomach that will give him a death he deserves
