IAS
by Brig J S Ahuja on May 16, 2005 05:43 PM  Permalink

How much Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was wrong in making a judgement about Indian Babus {IAS}groomed under British Empire . They picked up the worst from the tenaments of British burecratic system.

They have now become so powerful that they can befool the politicians , the public and even the media.

A stage has reached where a politician can not be more corrupt than his Babu.

They need to be tamed .

the unpricipled babu

I sincerely wish that the problem of Indias Corruption Rating was limited to Babus or IAS officers as suggested in the article. Take a close look, Corruption (all in capitals) is the philosophy of Indian life style.

As a society, we get what we appreciate. You appreciate sports, youll have good sportsman. You appreciate accumulation of (ill-gotten) wealth and your hands will be full of corrupt guys. Believe it our society value money over anything else, now, good/bad origin of the money is absolutely regardless. Principles may all the time go to hell. In our day to day life, we do not give preference to an honest person over a corrupt chap. We tag him as outdated and treat them like dirt. We love and respect corrupt and wealthy people not an honest babu, of course.

L.V.Saptaishi
by Bhalchandra on May 16, 2005 05:30 PM  Permalink

Saptarishi deserves to be sacked and cashiered for breaking rules of the IA Service.
He can then borrow a few kulhads from Lalu and start a Lassi stall at Howrah Railway Station. Lalu will willingly supply him lassi made from the milk of his homely bufalloes.

Un principled Babu
by Dr R V P Sinha on May 16, 2005 05:14 PM  Permalink

Dear Sir,
It is a real fact of Indian Bureaucracy and has percolated in every sphere of life which has hampered the progress of our nation which is shame and blot for any nation. Today only the sycophant , flatterer, so called cleverest who can manipulate the things for their benefit can flourish and reach to the top undermining the society and the nation. Public money is being wasted due to unprincipled Babus. similarly the politicians are equally responsible who have no care for the society and nation and hanker for power and money only. We have degraded ourselves only in thisway.

Its only due to a few good men that the nation survives, else only chaos and lawlessness would be the rule today.

the writer contradicts her/himself.it suggests the smart ones succeed:at the same time it finds the bb tandons to be right.the election commission of late has been passing controversial orders while not taking adequate action in serious cases of misdemeanour by politicians of a particular colour.mr vajpayee announced crores of grants for haldighati to influence rajput and bheel voters during last lok sabha elections but the commission did not move its little finger.what happened in lucknow saree case.serious violations reported by observers in tamil assembly and arunachal lok sabha elections went unnoticed.but it happily registered a case of voter bribe against lalu even when no elections were notified.mr saptarishi is over ruled by a team consisting of a junior officer and a reemployed oldie(a chamach?).kanchan, apply your logic here.jug

Desi Babus.
by Bharat Pandya on May 16, 2005 05:06 PM  Permalink

Sardar patel could control people like V.P.Menon. He could imbibe sense of honessty in babus. Where are such leaders these days. Secretaries (or even peons) openly say Ministers come and go , we are there for ever.A man of staure of VPMenon ( a giant amongst Govt. servants) was never considered bigger than his boss but these days M.Ahluwalias, B.Misras etc, look and act bigger than their bosses. These illeterate and corrupt politicians owe their existance to these babus and babus , more intelligernt than their sahebs take full benefit.

Dear Kanchan Gupta

I agree what you have written. Its not politicians are corrupt, the beaurocracts are more corrupt. I surprise, why our political leaders use their brains make a resolution in parliament to remove IAS system from the country. Instead we can use of Management students of top b-schools. When these people can manage big MNC's to profit making centres why not the country.

I think we all should seriously think of using students of top b-schools in place of IAS/IPS babus.

Sorry state of affairs. No hope for India as long as these spineless babus exist in the system. Bureacracy and politicians exist and are made for each other. Each facilitates the other. We need a better system to weed out the corrupt bureacrats from the system.
