The Indian administrative service has turned out some spectacular administrators.
It has also provided a fair share of intellectually and morally dishonest administrators.
With the NDA government usurping power at the Centre the grouse was that the administrative machinery was anti- NDA and beholden to the Congress and it called for a purge ! And purge they did !!!
BJP led government at the Centre and in Gujarat showed the power of infiltration and of having lackey's in the administrative and police service.
Compliant officials were rewarded and those not compliant enuff were hounded and harassed.
If the diaries of an Sreekumar are anything to go by the Gujarat government was entirely responsible for tieing the hands of the administrators.
A few brave ones like Harsh Mander were unwilling to be cowed and stuck to the call of duty, with sterling sucess.
In this milieu should not a crass political class that provides a perverse political leadership be called to give account as well for thier messing around with the administration or are there holy cows and they are beyond reproach ?
A fish rots at the head.. no use blaming people lower down.
Well at last after so many years I found another commandable article on rediff site. Well I am at present in canada and I find 99% of products labelled " Made in China". Thanks to the babus and laoos of India which helped boosting the economy of China by diverting the foreighn investors (from India to China). Hon'ble PM was more productive when he was Finance minister. Now he is also involved more in political gimmicks then anything else. If Rajiv Gandhi is credited with "electronic revolution" , I expected "financial revolution" on Mr Singh's part(which is long overdue. Thanks to the uni-principled Babus of India. Anil
Who the hell cares for 'PRINCIPLES' these days??? We are just another group of people who try to prove our point by writing in some tabloids. Having all said & done we r INDIANS..... we'll be happy with the same old statement
No doubt corruption is settled in th eblood of society today. But India is still progressing on shoulders of some honest people who love their country and name more than the anything else. I'm very confident that one cannot survive on corruption for ever. Time is already coming when transparency will be essential to progress. Corrupt people days are numbered.
Completely useless and introspective article....everybody knows the problems. Don\'t just practice your analytical skills, sometimes use the other part of your brain- Creativity-to propose the solutions...
This article truly reflects the corruption in India and the people who are ruling our country.
The attack on corruption should start right from the top.
1. Our ruling party gifted Lalu Prasad a railway portfolio despite his name in several scandals. The man who should be behind the bars is India's minister. On recent railway tragedy our railway minister was more bothered about BJP activists than hunderds of people who died. Its a shame..
2. Ram Vilas Paswas wants a Minority CM in Bihar. This is all these guys can think of. Has ever an Indian politican said that we need a progressive CM without worrying about religion, caste etc etc
3. Today you enter any government office, they wont serve you unless you bribe them.
I dont see any hope for India unless the system is changed, the attitude of government is changed. Roads, power, water, and population are still are major issues despite 57 yrs of independence. Maharashtra power crisis is a good example. The govt cant forsee any problem in this country. They cannot identify the issues that they might face and take immediate actions on them. We will remain a third world country unless we get rid of corruption right from top PERIOD
Thanks! This article makes much more sense than the article on uniform civil code.
There is an ongoing debate on whether elected officials should be educated for the betterment of the country. The bureacrats are always educated. But unfortunately instead of using the education for good, they use it with even greater skill for everything that is bad.
In this world where money rules supreme, It will be foolish to be idealist and expect everyone to be a Gandhi or a Patel. But when there is absolutely no accountability at all it is scary! We have accepted the fact corruption/misgovernment is a fact of life. No idea what the solutions are.
