BJP decline: Irreversible?
by Rammesh P Garg on May 12, 2005 01:44 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The answer to this question lies in the high of the beholder. The 'beholder' being a Left intellectual,(to an average Indian a left out intellectual), he believes in what he perceives. Let him. And let him feel happy that he has written a good 'prose piece'. And that's all to it.

There is a correction: The sentence should read as "The answer to this question lies in the EYE of the beholder", and not as The answer to this question lies in the high of the beholder.

BJP Decline?
by Balaji on May 12, 2005 01:23 PM  Permalink

How did an absolutely zero-ideology party like Congress come back to power? The congress party was totally written off and the party was the first to be surprised when it won the elections. How? Simply because of lack of alternatives. After a while, people want change and there is no other viable third alternative.

You may write off the BJP since you seem to take pleasere in doing so, you may even write its obituary, but surely, the BJP will be back in power in the next election, notwithstanding its internal squabbles. If even a notorious infighting ridden party like Congress can bounce back, why cant a much less strife-ridden BJP?

BJP decline: Irreversible

We all know that the column writter is a pro-congress writer and we do not expect anything good. Instead of thinking too much about BJP, please do something about UPA. We are watching its "performance" since its formation. Mr. Shibu Soran, MR. Lallu, Mr. Taslimuddin, Rabri devi are doing "very good" & I have no comments. Also CPM & others. I just want to say one thing to you. In India electronics media is everywhere and we are watching & I think I have little common sense. Best of Luck for your BJP bashing. Sukumaran.

BJP-RSS etc

It is possible that BJP and its symphathisers are searching for causes for defeat in Lok Sabha elections . In any kind of Manthan , before Amrut , a Poisson has to come out . Some Nilkanth is needed to swallow the poisson .
A good and honest Manthan should result in Amrut-a universal truth , applicable to all.

In general ,incompetantance breeds incompetance . This is the prevailing scenario.

Besides , the type of Democratic model we have , with first pass the post criterion , such odd results as seen in the last Lok Sabha results are expected . Numbers matter . Hence there is a vested interest in continuing Cast System , secularist - Communal devide and so forth . A new formula MAP :
M(Muslim), A(Ambedkar ie Dalit) and P( Phule ie OBC)
along with anti brahminism has been successfully applied by Sharad Pawar in electoral politics in Maharashtra and same formula in slightly different form ( tuned to the local situation )is successfully applied by DMK , RJD ,CPM , SP, BSP

Many alternatives :(1) Change the Election System. Minimum 50 % of votes polled should be the criterion for winning elections.Repoll for first two to decide winner. ( 2) 50% proportional represent

BJP decline
by E.Ramaswamy on May 12, 2005 12:29 PM  Permalink

What about the congress - they are depending on the Left parties for survival and the LEFT is anti US - Pak will only seize the chance to grow in US' favour and acquire sophisticated weapons. Since the cong. is bogged down by gandhian ideology and secularism they wont recognize reality - they are prompt in denouncing Hindutva but they pretend that there is no provocation from Muslim religious heads. It is my sincere opinion that to a large extent these Hindutva parties are more a reaction to Muslim intolerance rather than something spontaneous. Is it possible to force small family norms in this country the way it has been done in China - are there not Muslim religious leaders who are urging their followers not to adopt small family norms - the Congress and the left parties are ready to sacrifice national interest for the sake of 'secular image'. In december 2004 a CPI (not BJP) MP from Kerala mentioned in the lok sabha that the muslim league in kerala had lowered the national flag and trampled on it - yet the govt. and press ignored it.

Probably the BJP has nothing constructive to offer but then no party in the country has.

Probably India's decline is itself irreversible.

BJP Decline
by Prashant on May 12, 2005 12:16 PM  Permalink

Keep dreaming, Praful. You had made such prophecies a long time ago, even before the BJP came to power in'98. According to you, CPI had a smooth change of guard. That's easy. It's so tiny and it's influence so marginal, never mind it's disproportionate clout at the center, thanks to winning WB where they have traumatised the system beyond recognition. Transitions are always easy in such scenarios. Your daydreaming reagarding BJP's irrelevance can go on. At worst, presence of Lalu in the govt and with "support" of parties like CPI-M and CPI, it only has to sit back and be shooed into power. Don't forget the way the current dispensation came in. They shocked themselves in the process.
