Political venality and vaulting ambition
by Gauzbig on May 15, 2005 10:03 PM  Permalink

Praful Bidwai has put forward an interesting analysis.

RSS swyamsevaks boastful of spartan lifestyles have taken with ease to the five star culture and to the enjoyment of privilege and distribution of patronage at the first opportunity.

Deprived of positions in government or party they have been quite willing to walk out on the party or worse still stay back in the party while stretching thier energies towards protecting their position of privilege.

RSS itself has been quite desperate to seek favours, land in prime locations (as documented by Yogesh Chandra Committee)and favourable treatment quite contrary to thier boastful claims of national service, spartan lifestyles and ideology.

With the RSS showing the way it is not much of a surprise to see the BJP leadership (senior and second rung) not very different. Ideology almost non existent. Vaulting ambition for self gain and political venality are then natural offshoots.

The BJP today looks like the Congress of old , while reeking of hypocracy. All this while the Congress reinvents itself.

India has room for right of centre politics which are principled. BJP can still seek that space if serious. Are they?

your idiocy is Irreversible?
by Kiran B on May 14, 2005 03:19 AM  Permalink

Don't celebrate the BJP's defeat as if it is irreversible. it is just matter of time before BJP comes back. under UPA rule reputation of all the institutions and establishments are deteriorating starting from Election Commission (under attck from
senior cabinet minister and IAS officer), Governors (as seen in Goa and Jharkand), Speaker(could not control the house), parliament (could not function without either boycott or walk-out in any day), Railways (one accident every few months but the
minister did not bother about victims rather concentrate on the fictitious and fake attack on him), PMO (Ministers does not report to PM rather to super-PM) and....Indians deserve this as they elected the current government. they would know the mistake they committed by electing these people soon.

BJP decline
by subbaraman on May 13, 2005 06:57 PM  Permalink

The UPs and DOWNs of political parties world over are no strange phenomena. The biassed author has conveniently forgotten that Congress was virtually wiped out in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan after the last Parliamentary elections, so too in Jharkhand. Are congress reversals are also irreversible, Prafool Bidwai? Vacate your brain of Leftist and Congress ideologies and arrogance and inject into it some sane thoughts before penning any article.
