Jharkand
by skumar on Mar 23, 2005 09:31 PM  Permalink

Seems the columnist is echoing the views of Somnath Chatterjee. What is the use of talking of the balance of powers when the legislature is blatantly violating the provisions of the constitution? To accuse the President of favouring BJP is ridiculous. He only did what everyone expected him to do. When the infamous coup of Congress against NTR was enacted in AP, the Governor Ramlal was summoned to Delhi wasn't he?

JARKHAND ISSUE
by R.L. Dad on Mar 23, 2005 08:47 PM  Permalink

I didn't term it as drama, but issue. This indicates one of the major draw back of our political system. No doubt best posible rulling way as democaratic rulling, but if the complete politics is based on the issue of Roti and every citizen first look after that party who provide them concesional roti, full power, no responsibility etc.. and hence every party trying to true the dream by getting power by any means. Priciples are double standard show something else while in election before Janta and are different before and after that. What they are doing behind the curtain are totally different from what they says. Every one says Half glass of water as that suit to them, where as it is half full glass of water.
We totally faidup by this games and want a proper government for development, for generate self respect of India citizen all over world and give security to the citizen of India any where in India and abrod.
These issue are very small issue as compare to the basic needs described above and while get side due to these developments. Media also highlight only such issues. In intrest of development every one should think positively and understand the need of peoples.

Jharkhand had no heroes.
by John Kuruppacherry on Mar 23, 2005 08:39 PM  Permalink

Mr Bidwai has effectively articulated the unspoken thoughts of many non-partisan, thinking Indians about the Jharkhand episode. The Governor committed the indiscretion of hurriedly inviting the leader of an alliance claiming majority without carefully verifying the claim and giving them a long notice for proving their majority in the House. In the normal course the ministry would have fallen for lack of numbers. But the apprehension was that some of the MLAs from the Opposition (& Independents) might switch sides thereby converting the minority Govt into a majority Govt! Hence the kidnapping and herding of the Opposition MLAs through labyrinthian routes to a destination in Rajasthan and insulating them from the rest of the world. In the whole episode, in my view, those who emerged dirtiest are the NDA gang who seemed even to physically force some of the Independent MLAs into their gang. In the order of infamy committed by them, the 'unheroes' are NDA, UPA/Governor, and to some extent the Judiciary, followed by the President of India. And there is no single hero in sight, other than, arguably, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Mr Somnath Chatterji, who saw long-term implications.

you are biased!!!!
by Amit Partani on Mar 23, 2005 08:35 PM  Permalink

I have been reading so many articles by you and to be truly speaking you seem to biased and pro-left. Things do change with time and its not necessarily true that whatever is written in the constitution is perfect. The constitution was written considering the situation and facts that were prevailing at that time and with a certain vision about future. But, that doesn't mean that things will go according to vision. With all the dirty politics that is around these days, I would certainly applaud the Judiciary and the President to intervene this dirty game. Please think freely rather than the stereotype thoughts you have had so far. Please think for the good of our nation.

why Mr. bidawai has soft corner for laloo
by parimal on Mar 23, 2005 08:30 PM  Permalink

i don't know why mr. bidwai keeps on telling that the grounds on which laloo' government (oh sorry Rabri devi's one, anyway one never knows the difference) was dissmised in 2002 was bogus. i am no authority on constitution but i think there is some provision for imposition of presidents rule in case of break down of law and order to such an extent that the the life of the common man is jeopardised. just prior to the dissmisl of the state government there were two massacres in succesion in which more than 50 persons had died (i am qouting the government figures.) countless numbers have lost there life in different instances of massacre, kidnapping, gang wars etc. today bihar is synonymous with everything wrong with our democracy and economy. mind you bihar was the best governed state when india got independence. laloo and his cronies in media (i suspect Mr. Bidwai is one of them) have achieved a lot in the name of secularism. today muslim fares worst on all human development indices in india. well done Mr. laloo and Mr. bidwai too for always championing the cause of Laloo and fellows like in each and every article of his. anyway i also had the good luk of being robbed once in bihar.

another political gimmick
by aryan on Mar 23, 2005 07:18 PM  Permalink

Clearly.. the author is partisan and advocating a particular political alliance in this article.

No matter whatever the situation is, Supreme Court is the one who interprets the constitution of India. A request to Mr. Author, Please do NOT Question the decision of Supreme Court otherwise people will take your articles as another political gimmick.
