The small-timer's 'secular awakening'
by Jaganniwas Iyer on Mar 20, 2005 11:03 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Well, one more small-time, petty, ousted politician's sudden 'reawakening' to the glories of 'secularism'. I'm willing to give the Nirupams of this world this - they certainly keep the humour meter ticking. Give me a break, Nirupam. From a boot-licking functionary of a fiercely saffron party who once went around abusing the Italian as a 'bar-girl' to becoming yet another boot-licker of the Dynasty and issuing certificates of competency to Sonia (that she needs Nirupam's accolades says a lot about her too), Nirupam proves the old adage; give a small man some power and all he can show is how small he really is. Sanjay Nirupam is a small indivdual; Balasaheb Thackeray erred in giving him a stature that was always beyond
him.
