Dear Sirs,
We have a problem in India IAS trying to become a politiacian , as they obstacle between Public & Politician , as you said in your lines delhi wanted.... we were not supported . thses thing happen till date once the Goverment desired action the IAS/ PCS turn down/ mould the same action in their own way , We are blaming a politician for rules , & replace the same by vote every after five years , But the Babus the policy executer injoying regular power / promotion , In day of emergeny the common people enjoyed but corrupt official & opposition became victim, During Emergency commonpeople were benfited every babu found on his seat on time work went very smooth during Emergency ,
Failure of emergency the corrupt official / polititical party get teeth to to bite a common men , Today the full swing of Corruption the part & parcel of Failure of Emergency , Now they know no one can repeat the same as Mrs Indira Gandhi did
we are common man become a victim of Today politics
& no Control of These types of BABUs
Those wants to enjoy the power & feel bad to execute the order of GOVT

Sir,

Your insider insight into the dark days of Emergency was thought provoking. Althought, South India was spared much of the attocities, it was truely Orwellian in content and form.

Although Mr. B Patel was very sensible, one might start wondering another BJP successor now Mr. Modi, under no pretext of Emergency practises no better than those days, Just read the diaries of the brave Sreekumar, where he notes that the request from the CM are atrocious even under Emergency time. A loyal civil servant is denied his due promotion for not toeing the unlowful line.

Anyway, it was illuminative to read your assessments.

Thank you,
Dr. Thomas Varghese

Emergency: Darkest period of India
by Rakesh on Jun 25, 2005 07:24 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dear Rediff, Kudos for your article with Sri Chandramouli. Truely emergeny was the darkest period of India and was a blemish on our democracy. Press was unlawfully & strictly censored, which was the initiation of oppression of freedom of speech and views. Congress have been following this sincerely even today. Unfortunately, today's congress still support the imposition of the emergency. Congress ruined the country more than British & Moghuls.
Dr. Rakesh. United Kingdom.

In the article, chunnibhai vaidya's name is mentioned. At present he is running a movement against government's decision to give land to corporate houses. At this age also he is very energetic and committed. in the article it is rightly said, ' a committed gandhian'.

sir it was great that u opened the facts.
But it is the Past not present
In present time also Power is being utilised to
suppress the human rights.
Money is used to purchase anything in this in this country. e.g. education in donation colleges .
Meritorious students are denied admission only
because they do not have lakhs of ruppees.
Big politicians are running such colleges.
Execess number of Doctors and Engineers are
produced without any control. The unethical practises
these graduates use to become successfull ,are
harmfull to our society and dares to talk about it
due to the fear of money and pollitical power.
Many things still are being done to torture people.
So i think thogh not declared the Emergency still
exists in some other forms.
